I liked the premise of the book. It kind of has a John Tucker Must Die vibes? I probably would've given this a 3 or 3.5, but literally the most random plot point is revealed at the end of the book. Apparently Mary is some sort of witch or supernatural being, but the only hint we get is ???? maybe three instances/scenes in the book, and one passing comment about Mary's aunt, who "looks witchy." Like what kind of set up is that!!! This is in the contemporary genre and like, 98% of it is, but? It's not contemporary if there are non-realistic things in it!
Graphic: Bullying, Sexual assault
WOW.
Don't mess with these girls.
When I started reading this book, I didn't know what to expect. I had never read anything by Jenny Han. This story kept me interested since the first page. The writing style is so effortless and simple but at the same time beautiful.
All the characters were interesting and I felt so bad for Mary. It was like I lived through her. I cannot wait to read the next one!
This was a totally good surprise book for me!

What.
When I finished the book, I thought it was a standalone, but now I can see it's part of a trilogy. I didn't really get attached to anybody, and the ending was so sudden and unsatisfying that I'm not even interested in the sequel. I don't think it even qualifies as a cliffhanger, because it all happened so fast and awkwardly that I just ended up confused.
There's some weird subplot about Mary having paranormal powers? That really doesn't gel with the rest of the story. I was expecting a straightforward contemporary without supernatural elements, and the introduction/the role of Mary's powers at the climax was so weak that I finished up thinking she was imagining it. Nothing in the book suggested a paranormal subplot until it came out of nowhere.

A contemporary book where three girls running in different friendship groups team up to get revenge on three particular people. This was a hint of John Tucker Must Die and Mean Girls, except what they did to get revenge was far more cruel and a little illegal. Despite this, I was rooting for the three girls.
All three girls had their own chapters in the book as they all explored their hurt and betrayal at who had hurt them. I loved how each girl handled their situations differently and how they were all such different people but were connected by a common goal. This was such a fun book to read, quick and easy. If you liked Pretty Little Liars, this was a similar kind of book.
I bought the sequel and will definitely be checking it out sometime soon, especially with that cliffhanger!

I love this book. Yes, it's filled with every high school stereotype, but that almost makes it more fun. I love Kat, Lillia, and Mary, and the differences between them make the change of POV's obvious. I'm glad I bought the entire trilogy on BookOutlet, as I'm officially hooked. I can't wait to see where the story goes next!
For the most part, it was a pretty good book. I didn't have any real issues with it. The only problems I had were related to the "paranormal" aspects of the book. It always seemed kind of like an after thought and just thrown in there. So to sum it up, eye roll on the paranormal, enjoyable for the revenge gone wrong.
