I thought the writing was so simple that it was kind of annoying at times. I really like Kat and feel like she deserves better and wish that a certain relationship lasted. I know that what happened to Mary was horrible, but she just kind of annoyed me. Lilla was ok like I liked her, but how is she just going to release how terrible her friends are? Especially Rennie like after what happened to her and this girl is just like forget about it. No mam. But over all I really liked this because I love a good revenge story and girl friendship.

I love Jenny Han’s writing. She write some wonderfully, fluffy love stories, she normalizes mixed race families with each new book series and she makes sure to include families in her books. She is my go to for cute, contemporary fiction.

I was completely taken by surprise about how dark and gruesome this book got. Our protagonist talked like teenagers, they had sex and weren’t slut shamed for it and they were just some straight up mean girls.

I loved the idea of getting revenge on the people that make you miserable in high school. Each girl had a specific target in mind but all the girls had to help with the schemes. It caused the girls to form a very odd and secretive friendship. They bonded over the hell other people put them through.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the ending was brilliant I cannot wait for the next book.

I give this book a B.

I just wasn’t a fan of the love story between Lillia and Alex. I am just not a fan.

It was good. a fun read. i liked it enough.

The last few chapters made the book though. i understand it's the lead up in the early chapters but the last few chapters are what motivated me to get the next book. i hope now that we have the lead-up done that the 2nd book is more like the last few chapters of the first.

Way to leave it on a cliffhanger! AH!

I really liked this! But I don't think I'm going to continue the series. This first book holds up well as a standalone, and the synopsis of the next book didn't really intrigue me.

This book features discussion of rape and suicide. Both were handled in a respectful and nuanced way, but could be triggering to some.

The authors' voices blended well with each other. I couldn't tell who wrote what, which is an amazing feat. Overall a great read. In my dreams, it'd make a good TV show.

THIS WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN I ANTICIPATED GIVE ME THE NEXT ONE

Revenge

Typically not an act I see truly fulfilled in YA books but I hoped “Burn for Burn” would be different. No surprise at how pointless my hope was.
I have no clue what kind of high school these kids went to (a junior with an audi?) I do know the classic bullies portrayed by Reeves and Rennie, and I was excited to watch them eat a piece of that karma pie they made. Unfortunately that pie I was looking forward to them eating turned out to be little more than a karma cookie. When I read the blurb I expected three girls who were completely different from one another brought together with the sole purpose of revenge. I thought they would be feed up with the crap, and ready to show the world that they wouldn't take it anymore.

What I got were three girls who had been talked about, made fun of and lied to.

Don't get me wrong I think that Reeves and Rennie were awful people who deserved to be put in their place. But I think Lillia was taking her recent and horrifying experience out on Alex, when in reality it was obvious that Nadia had made this decision. I don't believe in lying so I can understand where Lillia was coming from but at the same time if her sister made the conscious decision to do something (repeatedly) then all you can do is be there for her if things don't work out.

I was disappointing in Kat. Here we have this "tough" chick that has been talked about all through high school, loose it because now some boy she likes might believe those rumors. If a person can spend an entire summer getting to know you and then turn around and believe the lies, then they weren't worth a second of your time. Rennie had talked about Kat since middle school and Kat was above that all. I'm just disappointed that she lost her cool.

This finally brings me Mary. I was a tad confused by my feelings for Mary. On the one hand she came back to prove to her bully that she was stronger than he thought. On the other hand she was ready to swim back to the mainland to get away from said bully at the first sight of him. I know she went through hell and I will never understand that pain but I felt like every time she took a step down the "I'm stronger" path she took two steps back towards the "He rules my life" path. I wanted her to conquer her demons and be proud of herself but that never happened.

I know everyone can't just walk up to their tormentors and tell them off, or show them that they aren't worth their time; but it would have been nice to see just one of these girls try that. I don't think it even crossed their minds to stand up for themselves. I won't ruin the book by saying how they got their revenge but I will tell you that if you’re over 18 it was unfulfilling. At least for me.

Awesome.. Can't wait for the rest of the series!!

First in a series - but I don't feel compelled to read the rest of them... 3 teens on an "idyllic" island team up to get revenge on 3 others for slights both perceived and others all too real. Starts our fairly harmless but gets serious fast.
Teen drinking and drug use. Sex (not graphically described), sexual references, and sexual situations.

I liked this book, but then again there were some things that I really didn’t like.

The book is told from three points of view from all three girls. I’m really interested to know how the two authors split the task of writing the book because it’s typically done with two POVs from each author, but that wouldn’t really work in this case. I really liked Lillia’s chapters and she was my favorite of the girls. She had the best reasons for doing this revenge and her relationship with her sister was so cute. However, I found her intentions a little weird because she never really had a good reasoning for joining in the first place. It just seemed like she was there as Kat’s ‘in’ to the popular group, who was the main group attacked. Kat was so annoying and I really hated her character. She was really ungrateful to Lillia and Mary, even though they would risk everything to do the revenge. She also pushed it way too far on multiple occasions. Her chapters were the worst because I really just didn’t like her character. Mary was nice and all her backstory was just so sad…I feel like she has the best reason for revenge of the group. However, I didn’t really like the paranormal aspect she brought to the story. It felt random and thrown in there, totally out of place in this genre and book. (Did she remind anyone else of Carrie?)

The revenge plot was really interesting and it was my favorite thing about the book. It reminded me of a high school version of the television show Revenge! The girls are not nice about anything they do and it sometimes gives them disastrous results. It’s not fun to watch them destroy their classmates, but it is intriguing how they pull everything off. I really liked the friendship the girls form through doing everything, especially as Lillia struggles with acting innocently around her friends.

This book also contains some heavy topics such as drug use, bullying, suicide, and date rape. These topics aren’t the main point of the book and are just covered in flashbacks, but drive most of the action that occurs. It gives a good background as to what is happening without getting into too many details to take away the revenge topic. All of the girls have some personal problems that drive them to start along this path of revenge. While I have seen it done better, it delivers.

Overall, this book was okay. Two of the three characters were hard for me to like and connect with. The plot drove most of the book for me and the revenge concept was well executed. I’m looking forward to continuing on with the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that all three main characters were very different and we got to learn a little about each of them. This story kept my interest and was such a quick read, was not really expecting the ending. Did not give it a 5 star only because Lillia's character would annoy me at times. Wanted more of Mary's story! Can't wait to read the second book in the trilogy.
