I love me a good dystopian book! I love how creative the plot/world-building is.

Meh, overall, it was an enjoyable read. Might change the rating later, but the characters I believe were well developed. I wish the author had showed us a bit more of the world, since everything was so radically different. I was tempted to give it 3.5 stars bc the book is painfully american lol. My main gripes with the book were the following:
first, this thing about whatever midmerican (i.e eeuu and canada, basically) scythes decide is what the rest of the scythes will follow suit had me rolling my eyes.
2. How the author chose to describe the amazon, as this lawless land, where anything could happen was sooooo racist. Are you kidding me?
3. This concept of ethnicity, of people being a mix of percentages, and that asking people their percentages was seen as rude was... literally usa as it is today? Yeah, scythes use these percentages as guides so as to not show bias when gleaning but.... give me something new.

Might lower the rating from 4☆ to 3.5 in the following days lmao

Meh.

It's hard to ignore the ridiculous premise (people are immortal, so there's a system in place to randomly cull people in order to keep the population in check. Instead of, I don't know, just limiting the number of kids people can have).
The plot was very by-the-books and at no point did anything surprising happen. But, it was still reasonably fun. And the cover looks amazing, which apparently matters to me a great deal.

So, yeah. I'll read more, but I'm not clamoring for it.

I love this book and the story Citra and Rowan tell of life, death, and the bonds you make in between. One of my absolute favorite books and I reread this trilogy constantly.
