Fun daydream idea that if you are nice, you will get everything you ever wanted because the universe will make it so. I'm not positive minded enough for that idea, but the daydream was nice
I've been reading Koontz for years and loved his books - his most recent ones, however, have been quite disappointing. The Bad Weather Friend was no exception reading more like science fiction than suspense.
3.75. This book is not what I would consider to be great literature, but it sure was a lot of fun to read. The main character is too nice for his own good, so he is the recipient of a bodyguard/guardian angel, characterized by the author as a collaboration between JK Rowling and Monty Python. What more do you need to know?
This was my first time reading a Dean Koontz book and it will also be my last. What a dumb story. A real estate agent is targeted by a secret society of billionaires because he's too nice. That's it. They ruin his life because he's nice and that's terrible threat to their idea of a utopian society. So, an alien being is shipped to his house and helps him uncover and destroy the two billionaires who set forth the plot against the nice real estate agent.
Utterly ridiculous. And, of course, this guy doesn't know how to write young women, something painfully obvious when he had her tell the real estate agent how she and her girlfriends really want a John Wayne type to come rescue them. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head.

I hate to say it, because I know how much goes into writing a book- but this was not good. I've never read anything by Dean Koontz, but I took on chance on this from my Amazon Prime First Reads for January. I loved the concept of a superpowered entity who fights, John Wick-style, on behalf of the folks who are too pure for this world! Technically, that is what happened. But the plot is written like a child's fable. The third person omniscient voice includes direct asides from an unnamed narrator to the reader. In some books, this adds some levity. But the overall tone of the book is so whimsical that this just makes any semblance of substance float away. There are references to different little things throughout the book that build out its world. But they aren't expounded upon in any meaningful way. Ultimately this feels like a cross between a short story that wore out its welcome, and an outline for a much more interesting version of this book.

I dont like the poetry weird dialog/writing. It wasn't bad, I enjoyed what I read but I have a long tbr
Oh my - I've read all of the Odd Thomas series. And, I had forgotton Koontz's writing style. This story seemed interesting to me, but was way too cavalier in tone and a bit juvinile in content. When Benny, one of the "nice" ones, hits a rough patch in life, he meets his Bad Weather Friend Spike. Spike is 1850 years old, and it's his job to "take care of" the troubes in Benny's life. It's supposed to be fast paced, but it didn't really hold my attention, so I kept putting it down to watch YouTubes.
I was fully engaged from the start. I have no idea how to describe what I just read but it kept my interest. Very strange story from DRK. His books are usually riddled with quirkiness but this one was very upbeat from start to finish.

Excellent cast of characters but I found that there were far too many storylines going on. It was an unique adventure however.
