This one I couldn't pass up being crazy about baseball as I am. Plus romantic comedies are my jam right now. I'm so glad that I read this one. I had a hard time putting it down. I've never laughed more while reading a book. Gage is a strange one, but he's hilarious and he may just surprise Katie. I love the scenes between Gage and his little best friend. They're oh so funny, but heart melting at the same time. Those are some of the moments you see the real Gage. Katie and Gage find themselves in sticky situation. They have to find their footing as they make the best of their situation. That's when Gage is going to surprise everyone. That's when we get a peek at the real Gage. I can't recommend this book enough. The characters are fantastic. They will have you in stitches.
It was an ok read but not LOL funny. Gage was really immature and some of the things he did and said that were intended to be funny just made him look and sound like an idiot.
Stephie Walls and Leddy Harper are each alone two of my favorite authors. Especially when I am in the mood for a story that is one that i can get engrossed into the story while it builds. And when these two authors team up I know I am going to be put on an emotional roller coaster ride. Home Run King was that roller coaster ride. You have no choice but to fall for Gage Nix. I fell in love with him in Third Base, and that love of him continued on in his own book. The duel POV of the story was something that I loved, it allowed you to see that relationship from both Gage and Katie's eyes. This book was one that had you laughing and moments that you wanted to smack some sense into the character. It was just the perfect mix for me. But of course I don't expect anything less from these two authors.
What a lovely, funny and emotional book this was! I loved reading it because I was laughing one moment and sad the other. Gage and Katie were a couple made in heaven!
Gage Nix is the king of the home runs. He’s a brilliant baseball player, he was also a women player until he had a serious relation with Missy. It lasted three years until she dumped him after his granny died. He was in a vortex of depression and she couldn’t deal. In his submersion of sadness, he had a fling with his granny’s nurse, and knocked her up. This book starts after all this happened and now he and Katie are dealing with the aftermath of the pregnancy.
At the beginning, I didn’t like Katie a lot. She was mad at Gabe all the time, she was surly and disagreeable but then the reader learns that she’s almost destitute. After Gabe’s granny died, she didn’t have any job prospects and her money was almost gone. She was looking for jobs with no success. I did wonder why she had no job if she was a qualified nurse, but that is explained later in the book. So it was natural that she was stressed and dealing with a guy who acts like an immature child does make you grumpy.
Gage Nix only had one person in the world who loved him completely and that was his granny. Since Katie also loved Granny so much, they had that in common. Gage’s defense against feeling unloved was to play the clown. His normal persona is a goofball, always joking and running circles around conversations. I get the feeling he suffers from ADHD because he’s easily distracted and his mind goes in all directions when he’s talking. He’s a very entertaining character. He’s also very enthusiastic about being a father and for that purpose he moved into his granny’s house, so he could be with Katie and assist her. He completely took over her life. He got a truckload of pregnancy books, read them all, and got Katie prenatal and vitamin pills, managed her diet and got rid of her favorite drug, coffee. Poor Katie didn’t have a chance against this storm because she was destitute.
Little by little, this couple started understanding each other and got attached by their common little fetus. Gage also has a best friend: a two-year old toddler Corinne, daughter of Coby his friend and former baseball teammate. It was hysterical how Gage runs to Corinne for life advice. There’s one memorable scene where they have a tea party, don sunglasses that make them invisible and have a heart-to-heart convo where Corinne dispenses advise about Gage’s love life. Priceless!!
As Gage and Katie get closer and intimate, secrets about Katie’s past come up and rock the boat. Gage shows how strong he is when he supports Katie and helps her deal. Katie handles Gage by sometimes acting like a mother, others acting like a girlfriend, and always accepting his friends, his quibbles, his crazy persona, and overall, loving his bestie Corinne and promoting that their loving relation continue. She also embraces Coby and Ellie as friends, as she needs help with medical matters when Gage is at away games. They both grow up a lot during this book, as Katie stops being so prickly and accepts help and Gage learns to open up his heart and communicate.
This is one of those book that you enjoy, not for the sex scenes but for the love that grows between the couple, with their baby in the belly, and with friends who are there at times of need. I had a great time with Gage and Katie, with Gage and Corinne, and Gage and Coby.

5 Home Run Stars
These authors just hit this one out of the park. I laughed out loud more times than I could count, teared up a few times, and fell in love with every word. They had me at baseball but when they added in fantastic main characters, a little girl that stole the show, and two amazing best friends this book went from a triple to a home run.
Katie. Sweet holy hell. This girl had the patience of a saint. I loved the build up and "realness" to her. Her conversations and way of explaining things to Gage had me smiling A LOT! Gage. This man is everything. His way of explaining things in what I now refer to as "Gage" speak was hilarity in itself. Kudos to the authors on creating him because he truly is the bee's knees. Even with screwing up various things he was not the village idiot. He was actually smart loyal, and loving. His connection with Corinne was probably one of the cutest things I have ever seen. Bless her parents Coby and Ellie for letting that relationship blossom and for loving Gage despite all his nuances.
I cannot rave about this book enough. It's definitely in the top books of 2018 and will also be an all time favorite.

Stella certainly score a Home Run with this book. Following Third Base, I almost didn't take a chance on it, however I really wanted to read Gage's story. I'm glad I decided to give this book a chance, because I would have missed one amazing read if I hadn't. It made me snort, giggle and downright laugh out loud with it's witty banter, which always had Gage at the centre. Whilst his relationship with Katie is the love and romance part of this, his relationship with Corinne will also capture your heart. I just loved that little girl and her sage advice.
This is quite a long book, a good five to six hour read and it was one that I didn't really want to put down. I had to when sleep and work got in the way, otherwise I would have read this in one sitting. I really liked Gage from seeing him in Third Base, you just knew he was something special. The more time I spent with him, just like Katie, the more I fell in love with Gage. He is the sweetest, kindest most caring man who hides that soft centre under a crispy shell because he is scared of being left behind. Katie had just as many issues and insecurities but somehow she and Gage blended together to make a perfect whole. They are both very likeable and finely crafted characters, and I felt connected to them and invested in them, their story and their HEA.
In some ways there isn't a massive amount of plot, but the book held my attention throughout. It is a truly wondrous love story of two people finding their happily ever after against the odds. Katie and Gage face an awful lot of ups and downs both together and apart and I felt their emotion, their pain and their joy. The writing is excellent with just enough angst, turmoil and hurt to balance the comedy elements.
This is a book I am more than happy to recommend.

Super cute story about a baseball player and a woman he got pregnant.. He has a best friend that is a 3 year old girl (his best friends daughter) and she is adorable. There was some drama but overall it was a good story.. Just in time for baseball season..

I absolutely love Rom-Coms! This story was funny, made sad things light hearted and absolutely amazing! I love baseball and alpha males with a tender side!
It may have taken a little bit to read this book but it wasn't because I didn't enjoy the story quite the opposite. I didn't want this story to end. I loved the dynamic between Gage and Katie. They have fun, touching, and rough heart breaking moments. This is another hit out the park for the writing duo of Stella!!
