I was excited to read the new Sarah Dessen, but I was disappointed in this read. The book seems to coast and slide its way to the goods without delivering much of a wallop. Bummer.

I know I read this one but honestly it's another forgettable reads. I've come to realize if I can't remember a book it's more than likely to fall in the middle for me.
Like the majority of Dessen's books, What Happened to Goodbye follows a pattern. Her books are always about a girl who goes through issues/events and has a love story as a sub-plot. Some people may get bored of this kind of things, and yes, some of her books are not all that good, but i have a weakness for young adult romances. I always seem to get involved with the characters! I can relate to many of them, or instead, i live vicariously through them because even though aspects of their lives are complete shit, there are always good parts. Parts that involve gorgeous boys with great personalities. I myself have gone through the shitty parts and i have had some good parts, but i have yet to discover the good part that involves a boy. I know, it is sad. But that is why these books appeal to me.
What Happened to Goodbye centers around Mclean Sweet, a girl who has witnessed betrayal and a rought divorce, along with many other court battles. She has moved many times because of her father's job in the restaurant business and in each place, she reinvented herself and went by a different name. However, in Lakeview, she finds it very difficult to use a new name and ends up just being herself, whoever that is. Here, she unintentionally finds herself accepted into a group of friends and also befriends the waitstaff at her dad's new restaurant, Luna Blu. She finds herself making bonds and getting involved, something she tried to avoid in other places. Another thing that is different is that she meets a boy that is not her type - not short term. But she finds herself falling for him anyways and he makes her rethink her usual strategies. During the books, we go along with her as she redefines who she - Mclean - really is and as her world comes crashing down.
I really liked this book. Dessen may have a predictable pattern, but she does it well. Her writing is very good and her characters are developed enough for us to get a picture of who they are. I also like how she connects all of her books by having other characters appear from time to time. I thought it was good and i enjoyed every minute of it. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed her previous books or people looking for a summer read!

cute little YA. slowly becoming obsessed with sarah dessen again just like my little middle school self was
This was my first Sarah Dessen novel and I enjoyed it enough to pick up some of her others. I couldn't help turning page after page to find out if and how Mclean would recover emotionally from her parents divorce. I do warn younger readers as there is some scattered profanity in this book.
Not my favorite Dessen book but as always, I love the previous character cameos. Heidi from Along for the Ride and Jason from Truth About Forever (I think?).
Similar to all Sarah Dessen books, with a troubled teenager trying to fix their life. This was not over the top, and I liked it a lot.
So I've got another favorite! Her books are always so amazing I just can't put them down. I've got to say one of my favorite things about this book are the cameos of characters from her other books, it's so fun.
