I had high hopes it did not meat them but it was okay
I really liked this book. Sarah Dessen has a distinctive style and yet still manages to give all her characters their own personalities.
I particularly liked Dave in this one, I must confess. Sweet but not overly so. It's been a good run of YA!

I love the way Sarah Dessen writes. The way she weaves the character reflecting on her life and the character in present day is incredible. I love the male protagonists, all different yet have the same qualites of kindness and honesty- Dave is one of my favourite. I love how direct he is. He's geeky, considerate and his obsession with basketball. Finally, I love how her main character's are flawed, instead of rushing to a boy to fix her problems she overcomes her fear of abandonment, fear of instability, fear of imperfections etc. Then she falls in love. What happened to Goodbye is honestly one of my favourite books, and I loved all the major characters as well as the minors. P.S. We need a story about Jason Talbot ASAP.
I normally love her books, but this one seemed slow and too long. I never really connected with the main character, which was most of the problem, I think. That being said, this one book won't deter me from reading more from Sarah once she writes them!
This was a nice little story. My only real complaint is for whoever published the copy of the book I was reading. The top of the pages were all rough and corrugated. The side edge of the pages were cut so that they weren't even and the bottom half was rough. The inside of the book had the text uneven with it higher in the middle and lower at the page edges. As if all that isn't bad enough, there were 35 missing pages in the middle. No, really. Despite all that, the actual story was good. I liked how the ending was happy, but not unbelievably happy. I really enjoyed this one.
What Happened to Goodbye is a story about friendships, choices and consequences, and family. McLean has moved a lot and created different lives for herself each time, but this last move might have given her something worth sticking around for. Sarah Dessen is so good at creating characters that you can't help but empathize with and cheer for, and she did it perfectly in this story.
