DID NOT FINISH: 17%

I couldn't get into it or connect with the characters. The dialogue felt unnatural.

I found the beginning of this book to start out really slowly for me. Partly due to the characters. Ellie was fine but I never fully embraced her. I agree with another reader that I kind of found her unappealing and kind of uncaring. Her sister is missing and at times Ellie came off as uncaring with the way she reacted.

Grayson was better. I did warm up to him quicker. He was kind. Grayson and Ellie did share some sparks but they were more sparklers than big fireworks. This story had some flaws to it but it would have been improved better with more enjoyable characters. Yet, this is just my opinion. Try this book for yourself.

This books picks up after book one EXCEPT there clearly is a story between this book and the previous as hinted at in a narrative about Shauna. I did some searching and there was an exclusive release of a 1.5 novella for Barnes and Noble that have the missing story. But it's not to be released anywhere else until December 2018. Which sucks since it takes place before book 2.

But this book follows another lavender tides townsperson and still carries forward and ties in the continuing saga of Shauna 's family. I still think the plot is farfetched but it is was intriguing all the same.

I look forward to reading the novella before this story and the upcoming third book. I loved popping back in at Tidewater again and look forward to stopping over in Rock Harbor again in book3.

I was about halfway through the book before I saw it says "A Lavender Tides Novel" on the cover. I suspected there to be a series. I don't look up reviews or information about my reads until after I review them, so now I understand why some of the chapters include information I didn't think fit the plot. This book can stand on its own with its developed plot lines, so you do not need the entire series to understand. I enjoyed reading this book, but I don't think enough for me to seek out the other Lavender Tides novels.

Plot was definitely not in short supply! New branches to the plot were added in almost every chapter. I do like how the reader doesn't necessarily know how this new information fits in with the book right away. The branches reach out and come back together in the end to weave back and be wrapped up. Sometimes, a new twist would make me roll my eyes because "of course that would happen. Why not?" But everything did click together and I didn't fully predict the ending.

I feel as if the Greyson and Ellie's backstories were touched on and have a lot of potential. I'm not a super fan of how they were wrapped up.

For a Christian Fiction novel, there really isn't much religious themes incorporated. A little "I'll pray for you" here and there at the end, but that's about it. It almost felt misplaced in relation to the rest of the book. I never would've guessed Coble to be a Christian Fiction author.

The second in a series and like most in a series like this they can be read out of order as each book centers around a different character in the same setting. The rule follower in me has a hard time not starting on book one, chapter one, page one, so I had read book one in this series and completely suggest starting there, but if you are a rebel, you can start here!

Ellie Blackmore is flipping houses and her partner is her sister's ex boyfriend, a little weird of a working relationship, but it works. Ellie heads to her sister's boat to celebrate her sister's birthday and she doesn't find her sister and instead finds a puddle of blood . . . .

I liked this mystery. For some reason, I just couldn't connect with the characters and I thought the plot was a little outlandish. I really like Colleen Coble and enjoy her cozy Christian mysteries. This one just didn't grab me like some of her other mysteries have. I'll probably still read the next book in the series.

I could not get into this story at all. The dialogue between characters seemed forced, and no one had a voice of their own. Towards the end, someone actually said "I want to woo you," and the author had to defend it in the following sentence.

Secrets, lies and suspense! That’s what you’ll find in this, book two, in the Lavender Tides series by the talented Collen Coble.

When Ellie’s sister Mackenzie disappears, Ellie is determined to figure out what happened and in attempting to do so much, much more is yet to be discovered.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful mystery. It was an engaging tale about the complexity of family and its hidden (good and bad) treasures.

I received an advanced review copy (ARC) of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
