I really loved most of this book for how real and genuine it is but I am also a loner of grand gestures and theatrics which this book sadly did not have at the end. Still a fine ending but did not leave me grinning like I had hoped it would. Great story though and hilarious humor.

I was kind of shocked to find out this book was written by an American, lol. Only because this sort of reflective, single-woman's-journey story with bright and interesting characters is VERY British chicklit. Even the setting felt like a vacation beach town, not a Hamptons type.

Anyway, this was mega readable, if predictable in its beats. The conversation patter was good, the friendships and women were charming. Phoebe was so easy to root for: it's nice when a main character is knowable, with quirks that could be easily off-putting; it's so much preferable to a flatter any-woman type of lead.

A book that can make you cry & laugh is hard to come by. It’s a dark humour book which I enjoyed & i also loved the setting of the book. It touched topics on grief, depression, miscarriage & how to be a nightmare bride. Overall I found the book very fast paced & a compelling read but I didn’t enjoy how quickly the ending wrapped up for the main character to be “cured of depression.” I think it could have been wrapped up differently with how this is just the start of her journey with more growth to go.

Phoebe is such an interesting character, clearly inspired by the women of 19th century novels who rarely took decisions and took terrible ones if they ever did, yet she and her problems are decidedly modern. I love seeing someone step out of themselves and actually have the courage to examine their own reality. This was astute and insightful but also so silly and fun!!

This one hit. I don’t know how a book about a depressed woman who travels across the country to a hotel to unalive herself could make me so hopeful and optimistic, but this one did just that. I found Phoebe highly relatable and real, specifically her struggles with letting others define her and their opinions dictating her life decisions. I love her growth throughout this story and her making decisions based on how she wants to live her life, and not what her father or husband want of her. As someone who recently went on a similar journey as phoebe and learned to accept myself as I am, it made my heart ache seeing Phoebe do the same and eventually love herself and how her new friendships with the wedding people helped with that. :)
