I liked it but I wasn’t emotionally attached to it. But still a great book

I am very conflicted about the ending so I’m giving it a lower rating that I was planning to.

The vast majority of this work I was very surprised by and caught off guard how relatable I found the MC. I do feel touched by this book and was expecting to give it a 4 or higher, but like I mentioned the end really through me for a loop.

The ending, with the time skip, felt a little rushed considering so much of part two showed the reader so much of Natsu’s internal dialogue regarding wanting to have a baby and struggling with the idea of doing so alone, and also being alone without a partner or her sister, so it felt out of character for the book to then resolve this with a time skip where the reader doesn’t get to see or know Natsu’s final decision making.

Especially after the last conversation we see between Natsu and Aizawa. Aizawa’s position in Natsu’s life at the end also bothered me because that didn’t seem to be want he was expressing that he wanted? I was very surprised when Natsu said they agreed neither of them wanted to be in a committed relationship and he now lived in a different city and wouldn’t be present in the baby’s life.

This would have made more sense to me as an ending pre-Aizawa expressing his feelings for Natsu and Natsu reciprocating (but also not without going into too much detail). Because I thought - even if Natsu didn’t want to have sex ever, he knew this and still expressed that and WENT TO OSAKA ON THE OFF CHANCE HE COULD SEE HER so I had expected Natsu would accept his feelings and they could navigate some sort of relationship together. Since part of Natsu’s struggle with wanting a baby in a large part was whether it was selfishly her wanting a companion.

I’ll have to think on it more, but the ending doesn’t negate how much I appreciate and felt seen by the rest of the book.

Ehh it was okay. Definitely dragged on at times but i struggled most with the dull writing. i just can’t get myself to like Kawakami’s writing style

Nice window in to some contemporary characters’ lives. Explores personal growth.
