So, this is a reread because I'm currently trying to go through all of Riordan's series again. I'm going to be really honest...I really dislike this book. Not because the writing was terrible or anything (though I did notice a couple grammatical errors the editor must have missed), but because the characters are like all of my worst nightmares coming true. I just- Okay let me explain my extreme dislike for all of them:
Jason: So, the problem with Jason is that not only are his little internal monologues incredibly boring and make me want to speed out of his chapters as fast as possible, but he just does not hold up to Percy. Yes, he is pretty powerful, but just having him indirectly boasting of his upbringing and his Roman training made me not like him. Also, the fact that he kept thinking he was going to be the immediate leader was annoying, too; he never even once thought that perhaps one of the other demigods would be the leader, like the four that were still missing
Piper: Ugh, Piper really made me want to die every time a chapter of her's came up. I really hate using this term, but she was probably one of the most "pick-me" type girls I have ever seen. Like, yes, you're gorgeous, but not liking makeup or fashion or whatever doesn't make you better than your siblings and other girls. It just felt kind of forced, and the fact that she constantly brought up how different she was from other girls was soooooo annoying. NOBODY CARES
Leo: I know this isn't really how others feel, but Leo was the most annoying for me. His exact personality seemed like a copy off of Percy's, except like 10 times cornier. And, it was really weird how similar his situation was to Percy's: his fire being a bad sign in Camp Half-Blood like Percy's water in New Rome, him falling in love with Calypso (no explanation needed), his freaking PERSONALITY. I don't know it was just like reading Percy's pov if Percy was in the uncanney valley.
