I found it a little harder to get into than the first one, but the mystery was better once I connected.

I love the post WWI setting for this series. After finishing number two in the series, I’m growing attached to the cast of characters. The plot in this volume was engaging with some twists. In all, the stories in this series are leisurely paced, not action packed thrillers. Readers who enjoy thinking about motivation, the psychology behind behaviors, and metaphysical approaches to problem solving will feel at home within these pages. Readers who are looking for a fast pace, lots of action, and an adrenalin rush won’t find it here. I’m a bit of both so will reach for volume 3 when I want my next gentle mystery.

I really enjoyed this one. Maisie is developing into a more interesting character-- I liked her in the first book, but it's nice to see she's human, too. It was really interesting to learn about the and other aspects of life in that time; that's always one of my favorite parts of historical fiction (well, when the author does their research, anyway)!
Giving four stars instead of five for a few tiny continuity or place errors, and a few paragraphs I thought could have been tidier or entirely omitted. Not distracting enough to hinder my enjoyment of the book, though.
