Update: though my initial review, preserved below, stands in some ways, two things made me post this update. First, my final comment came out more negative than I intended and I felt I should add color. Primarily I was trying to add humor, but should also have mentioned that for many people, this book is still a useful reminder to step back and consider what really matters.

The second reason I'm updating this review is that I've had several conversations about this book with different people. In a nutshell, despite being a bit unoriginal, this book managed to make me think, and think a lot. I've added a star for this fact alone.

I think the major downside to this book is the final chapter which, to me, reads much more like a diatribe, or at least someone trying too hard to teach me something. The rest was colorful and easy to read though, so don't let the last bit sour too much.

Original review follows:

I'm sure there are many people who could benefit from hearing what this book has to say. For me, though, there's nothing new in this book that you couldn't get from the title and synopsis.

Allow me to recommend you apply the wisdom of this book's title on itself and not give a f* about reading this book.

Buddhism for white dudes

Solid advice. Less cynical than I'd expected.

Some really good points in this book but the guy also can get super self righteous at times

This book dives deep into harsh truths we often avoid, only to face them when regret hits, and the realities we refuse to accept. Some parts go against what I’ve learned so far but at the end of the day, it’s just a different perspective. A lot of the concepts really hit hard and made me reflect on life. The author doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Just lays it all out, raw, and unapologetic
