True to its title- some of these situations were so awkward, I actually cringed from my second-hand embarrassment.
Ugh I loved it! I couldn't put it down. It was fast paced with a lot of action which made it hard to catch up on the feels. I also love girl group friendships but especially this one. Hannah had a different type of friendship with each individual girl and it wasn't like they all had to stick together or know everyone's business the same. I do kind of wish the characters weren't so obsessed with finding random people to kiss and do things with but it didn't take away from all the good.

This book was freaking hilarious. Vulgar British humor that had me laughing out loud, and definitely rooting for Hannah and Sam.
Confusing alternating POVs and shallow characters consumed with losing their virginities. No thanks. DNF.
DNF’d at a little over halfway. The story just wasn’t what I expected, and I got a little tired of waiting for characters to actually do something.
While I enjoyed some parts of this book, it wasn't really meant for me. A lot of the book deal with teenagers doing it or wanting to do it or feeling bad about not doing it or talking about doing it. As someone who isn't really into that, the book kind of lost me there. But I appreciated the book's approach to female friendships, and how they can be both rewarding and toxic. I liked Hannah, but if I didn't I would be really mad at her for how often she calls herself ugly when she's basically gorgeous and has hot guys falling over her. That's one of my least favorite clichés. Sam was kind of likable and at the same time kind of stupid. And while I thought the two had chemistry together, there isn't a lot of time devoted to it and more time spent in pointless mix ups, and as a result the ending feels kind of rushed. All in all, it was a fine read, just not my cup of tea.
It was too childish for me. I feel like this is something I would read in middle school or early high school
What a ridiculous waste of time. How books like these ever get published is beyond me. Don’t spend a moment or a penny on this drivel.
This month's selection for a book club I belong to was A Totally Awkward Love Story by Tom Ellen and Lucy Ivison. It's a story told from Hannah and Sam's point of view in which they have just finished secondary school. It takes place over the summer while they are waiting for the results of their admissions tests for university. In the book Hannah and Sam keep running into each other, being attracted to each other, and then something gets in the way, and they miss their opportunity. The book has parties and trips and shopping and eating--honestly, reading about the vacations in France, Greece, and the group of friends going to a festival during COVID-19 made me a little jealous. However, listening to the book definitely didn't make me miss being 18. The book is filled with many miscommunications and drunken decisions, which seem to be right on point for that time of life between the very end of childhood and the official start of adulthood.
One line from the book that I really enjoyed is when Pax (a male character) says: "Love her? Love her? You don't love someone until you are like 23 or something." That sounds like a solid life plan!
I listened to the audio version of this book at 1.8 speed. Both readers are excellent and make the book that much more engaging.
3.5 Stars - If you like first love romances with lots of missed connections, you'll love this book.
