An excellent coming-of-age fairytale retelling. Short, sweet, and memorable.
Don’t read books about snow when it’s so hot you can’t control your body temperature!
I think it's clear by now, that T. Kingfisher cannot do wrong by me. Except for the part where I always want more, because her books are just too short!

Incredibly relatable and funny. Kingfisher knows how to make a magical well known story so human. This book has talking animals, winter adventure, and finding yourself.
This is the retelling of a faery tale from Hans Christian Andersen, and it’s been nicely twisted with a modern vibe and is full of strong female characters.
Gerta’s best friend (her assumed boy-next-door-husband-to-be) Kay is stolen one night by the Snow Queen. Not sure that she or anyone else believes it, she sets out anyway to rescue him. On the way she meets a raven, a girl and a reindeer, all of whom help Gerta find the path to the Snow Queen. Along the way however, Gerta starts to question everything she has ever held to be true as wonders of magic and love turn her world around.
