lighthearted
This was a quick, lighthearted read.
I wasn't as attached to the lead characters as I was to the various plants and animals that appeared throughout the book.
The magic of the animals, their ways and tales, of plants protecting their own, all these held my interest more than the main story did.
The romance too, was very forced and did not come naturally. The main character, Gerta, and her love interest had no chemistry nor depth with each other.
In spite of that, it still made for a fun read, even though ultimately it's forgettable.

Delightful. T Kingfisher did another great job reworking of The Snow Queen tale here.
Loved Gerta, she's really easy to care for. Always amazed by how the author can make me care for so many characters so readily in under 250 pages. Mousebones and Janna were both fun secondary characters who managed to bring their own charm and personality through the story. In fact I would say that there were multiple older women characters and all retained a distinct personality and all but one were really endearing characters. (That one was mean anyway)Really enjoyed how the romance was turned on it's head - sweet and comforting and quite real.
A nice quick read for a cold dark night.
