Scott Pilgrim Re-Read Day: Volume 1
Sooooo, I've decided to spend today re-reading the entire Scott Pilgrim series, because whilst I should technically be working on my Masters Thesis, its raining and miserable outside and I need some fun in my life!
Book One is a great introduction into the Scott Pilgrim universe, setting the tone and humour that is carried throughout the entire series. What Volume One does well is character and world building, you get to know all the different characters personalities and quirks, with even the minor characters having their moment to shine. Additionally the world building is phenomenal, you are instantly thrown into this magical and manic world, with little to no explanation of what is happening... Which you'll have to get used to as O'Malley very rarely explains anything in depth, which is really what makes Scott Pilgrim so unique and fun.
What lets this book down is the introduction of Romona's first evil Ex Matthew Patel, unlike the other entries in the series, we don't get to spend a lot of time with Matthew, he is ver one dimensional as a character, and the fight scene is really over before it even begun.
I am so excited to re-read the rest of the series... ONTO BOOK 2!

Love love love. Made me chuckle a few times and makes me love the movie even more on account of how true it was to the comic (for the most part). Easiest 5/5 for me.
Escapist vacation reading, to be sure, but I will definitely be reading the entire series based on this introduction. The dialogue is awesome, the art style distinctive, and the story recalls all our relationship-challenged adolescences...
