I just don't like age gaps. And that is the main point of this story. Professor falls for student.

Meh.

3.5 stars
I read Pres-Locke already so I knew this was coming and it was going to be a HEA.
I enjoyed it though, the tug of doing the right thing for someone you love even if it hurts them.
Going back in forth in the timeline can be a good and bad thing, this felt like a little too much of that for my taste.

Overall : a good read
The writing style was really cool as well ( the back and forth of past and present and it coming full circle during the end *chef kiss* but sometimes the conversations had me a little confused about who said what.
P.S the smut is hard in this one.

Finley is the first of two books in Ella Frank’s Sunset Cove series and both of these books were filled with all the angst my little heart could desire. Finley is a story of second chances and sacrifice. The story flips between the present and the past, but it isn’t distracting at all. I loved how Finn and Brantley’s story unfolded in both timelines and how this dual storyline helped to tell their story.

Daniel Finley has made a life for himself in Chicago after leaving his life and heart behind in Florida. He thinks he is happy until he gets a note on his 30th birthday, calling him back home. Brantley Hays has a life and career in Florida, but has always known that something was missing. He never forgot a man he met years ago who took his heart with him when he left. Hurt runs deep between these two men, but the spark also burns hot.

I LOVED how their second chance story came together. They had a really hard time letting go of the past and realizing what they both truely needed in life was each other. This was such a sweet story that also will pull at your heart. A complete stand alone with no cliffhanger, this story is a must read from Ella Frank and this series may be one of my new favorites from her. Shhh don’t tell her other series. I don’t want the guys to get jealous.

Underexplained and too unrealistic. Guy should have stayed in Chicago and had a happy life with someone else. Very frustrating read. Plot hinges on the fact that one character seemingly independently picked a law school for the other character to go to on the other side of the country, no reason other than 'because', and then chased him away from Florida to Chicago by saying he doesn't want him here. They were dating, so they broke up. Character One thought that they were somehow supposed to get back together and that it was all good, and is so confused when character two comes home angry after years and years. Yeah, no shit. And somehow, even though Character One thought they were supposed to be together again after law school, they never talked and wrote to each other, or attempted long distance, or... anything. No communication. Zilch. Nada. I don't have that much suspension of disbelief.

As soon as I started reading this book, my heart broke, the emotions were overload while reading this. One thing after the other and I wanted to know what happened between the these two beautiful people. The tension between the both characters, the pain they were going through, their dreams is beautifully described.

The sexual tension which surrounded them was scorching hot and I kept reading only to be pulled back. Ahh, when the final deed happened, Omg there were fireworks around me, hearts circling around my head!

You got to read this one of the most amazing book by Ella Frank. She is genius at invoking strong emotions. A very tight fist closed around my heart as moved forward in the story. Painful and raw. My mind and heart were at sync at what should happen and it wasn't happening. I was shouting, yelling, crying. I even tried to imagine if it were happening to be. Worst two minutes of my life. I can't imagine, I don't want to imagine it. Omg!! These two characters are imprinted on my soul.

Highly recommended for people who love painful, ugly cry books!! This book will touch your heart.

Yeah I think it is high time I admit that I am completely obsessed with Ella Frank. There is no denying it. I have read a mountain of her books in just the span of a couple of months and I have no plans on stopping. Her writing style is absolutely phenomenal; everything from her multilayered characters, depth enticing storylines and drama that makes my knees weak - I am two shakes away from an anxiety attack with all this emotional swoonage.

I am normally not a big second chances type of trope kind of gal but honestly Daniel and Brantley’s romance begged me to read it. So here were are…

Finley opens with somewhat a cryptic starting - one where I am not entirely sure where this will lead, but nonetheless, Daniel is now thirty, established lawyer in Chicago when he receives a letter from his past lover, Brantley. Brantley is someone he has not seen in over seven years; seven years since he shut the door in his face urging him to move on with his life, go to college and become a lawyer - which Daniel did.

Now Daniel returns to his hometown to ‘catch up’ with Brantley - and whew… things get heated. At first I was really hesitant. I said it before and I say it again, I was not sure what was in store with this storyline, I knew it was a ‘second chance’ trope but I didn’t know how or why. Can I just take a moment to say that I LOVED it. By golly miss molly did I swoon. Brantly is nine years Daniel’s senior and previously his professor from college. Oh my lanta, gush me more please. I cannot handle the forbidden sexiness drooling from this book.

What I liked most about Daniel and Brantley is though Brantley is very much his senior, Daniel doesn’t care, as a matter of fact he finds it more appealing. Daniel is also more confident, cocky, arrogant personality now with age, Brantley finds it more sexually appealing with how ‘bossy’ Daniel has become. Their personalities really meshed well with one another. Though they both had their internal conflicts with what happened seven years ago, they are still utterly consumed by one another. By the end you finally realize why Brantley pushed Daniel away and it tears your heart to pieces; especially those flashbacks… ugh…. Give me a heartache why don’t you.

They really did have a fierce, passionate connection from the start. Both from their insecurities to their flaws, down to their perfections and how they molded to one another. They enjoyed the company and honestly it was hard to see them hash out their past. I will also admit after reading some of Ella Frank’s other MM Romances’ Finley was more of an emotional angst feel read for me. Not in any way bad, please this was amazing. When I wasn’t choking on my tears, I was smiling like a schoolgirl. This one really tugged at my heart.

Surprisingly I did not put two and two together until about halfway through that the more of Ella Frank novels I read, the more connected worlds they are. This is Daniel Finley. THE DANIEL FINLEY. And if you have not read the Temptation Series that would obviously mean absolutely zero relevance to you, but just know, Logan and Tate are here! Whew. I know, I really feel like I should have picked it up sooner, I recognized the name but honestly until Daniel mentioned Mitchell & Madison law firm in Chicago I did not really put any placement to the development. Then the run in between Tate and Logan verses Daniel and Brantley… if you didn’t notice I am definitely fanning myself over here.

Overall, this was a great start to yet another series by Frank. Again I say she has completely consumed me body and soul - beguiled me even. I cannot get enough of her novels. I really enjoyed Brantley and Daniel. They had this forbidden appeal with second chances dripping off their every inch of sexaul emotional tension. The ending sent me swooning over the moon for these two.

At this point I cannot wait to dive into Devils Kiss, I am so ready for Derek and Jordan. You slay me Ella… each inch of your creative mind slays me.

I love that the happy ending didn't come until the VERY end. I was thrilled that Fin didn't hang on to his anger and I'm beyond excited that Brantly didn't give up!

This had the potential to be both 2 stars ⭐ and 4 stars ⭐ and I feel like somehow ended up in the middle.

Mixed as FUCK feelings:

I feel like I have to stem my but do I like this, or do I not like this book from the writing, specifically the writing perspective taken place in this book is 3rd Person and before anyone goes on a tangent related to the negativity surrounding 3rd Person's POV, I love this style of narrative, I ate it up and it's my favorite version of Pov's.

But the third person's perspective of this book, sucked. It was terrible and not because the writing was bad, it was marginally better than I expected it to be, but the placement and posture of pronouns, the LACK of identification who HIM/HE/HIS was referring to drove my mind to
