This was a FANTASTIC read for anyone who is experiencing the pain of grief and needs a story to relate to. I would give this book 6 stars if i could.

I loved the writing in this novel. easy to digest, yet I still had to grab a dictionary a couple of times. I found it frustrating that the character development was not as linear as I was expecting in some instances or as “big” for certain characters. but I think that’s what makes the story so real and makes the characters more lovable and human. it’s a human story, if anything.

Coco Mellors‘ latest novel „Blue Sisters“ is a story about loss, about sisterly relationships, about dysfunctional family dynamics, addiction and the many ways to handle grief. Set one year after the unexpected death of their sister, it is told alternately from the perspectives of the three remaining Blue sisters, each on their own path of grieving and of trying to numb and escape their pain. Coco Mellors‘ character development is strong and sensitive and while the narrative revolves around the loss of their beloved sister, I feel like it is also about becoming oneself, developing a sense of self as a woman in our society, about growing up, navigating life in the late twenties and learning to communicate. Up until now I haven‘t read many books that develop female, sisterly relationships in this way and would recommend the novel to everyone who enjoys character-driven stories.

The only thing I didn‘t like was the very last paragraph, written out of the perspective of a newborn, which I found a bit odd.
