I feel genuinely gaslit by the internet about this book. The reviews I read claimed it was a modern feminist masterpiece, inspiring, enthralling, gripping, etc..
I thought it was one of the most boring books I’ve read this year. Zero character depth, slow and predictable plot, weird Gen Z language use for a book set in ancient Pompeii. Genuinely all around did not like it. But I feel insane for having this opinion based off of the cult following and 5 star reviews.

I really enjoyed this book. It felt like a modern twist on early Pompeii with undertones of sisterhood and feminine rage.
The story began with little insights to all the girls characters, followed by some loose plots that mould into the bigger plot - and I’m a sucker for a happy end. One note of what I didn’t like would be there is a lot of swearing, but then again what else do you expect from brothels?

I’ve avoided this one based on its back cover description. I should not have done so. Well written characters inhabiting a terrifying and powerless Roman world. Brutality but also astonishing endurance and no little joy. Tragedy there is of course it goes without saying. Plotting is also excellent which is why it gets a rare 5 stars.
Loved the descriptions of ancient Pompeii, it felt like I was there! Beautiful and tragic story about slavery, friendship, and determination. Sometimes the writing style felt a little too modern but overall great story. I’ll definitely read the next 2 books!
I enjoyed reading the story and I thought the author did a great job of bringing life and putting the reader in the shoes of what it would be to live as a prostitute in ancient Rome, however I was thrown by the modern language and the ending felt a bit too melodramatic for me.
