A really well written easy read and immersive story. The emotions are strong and connecting with the characters is easy despite being set in Ancient Rome. Harper writes real people and that experience crosses time periods and practices. It was interesting that it’s told from a slave’s perspective as there are so many retellings and historical fiction that focuses on big names and heroes, which is always fun. But it’s been good to read something that explores normal life. Some seriously sad parts but ends well and could easily have been a stand alone novel but I’m excited to read the sequels.
