Pretty good for the first book. Captivating, like a junior James Bond
Fun read! I'm not going to be one of those guys to sit here at pick apart and analyze every detail. I just enjoyed the book. Its a great adventure! Fun stuff!
I read this so that I could recommend, with a certain degree of knowledge, this series to our students. I've seen it in the library for years, but hadn't taken the opportunity to read it yet. I wasn't disappointed! It's fun, thrilling, and well-written for a YA audience. I'm actually sad that I didn't bring home the second book to read on this cold, rainy Sunday. I will be picking it up tomorrow, though. :-)
(Note: There are a few holes in the tradecraft aspect of the story, but I'm pretty sure the average teen isn't going to be as hung up on those as I was. This is James Bond/Kingsman light - not le Carré. I'm fine with that.)

Alex Rider is a normal kid until the day his uncle dies. Suddenly he is transported into a world of spies, contract killers, viruses, gadgets, bombs, and much more. The first novel in this series by Anthony Horowitz is Stormbreaker. Alex is forced to pick up where his uncle left off in the spy business. Alex poses as a contest winner to try out a new computer. While undercover, Alex discovers a lot more than he expected he would.
I first started reading this book series in 4th/5th grade and probably finished in 6th grade. That was around 10 years ago?
Now, I'm a sophmore in college and I decided I want to reread this series after watching the first season of the TV show Alex Rider on Amazon Prime. I didn't remember a lot about the series, but I did remember that they kinda skipped the first book in the TV show.
Stormbreaker is a good start to this series. I stand by rating it 4 stars as I did 5 years ago when I created my goodreads and rated this book by memory. If I read this book for the first time now, I'd probably feel more inclined to rate it 3 stars. There are a lot of unrealistic things about this book, but mainly that's just the premise and nothing can be faulted for that. I mean come on, Alex Rider is a 14 year old spy for MI6. What do you expect?
I still enjoyed reading the book and it was a fun read. It totally feels like an episode of Totally Spies with the gadgets that Smithers gives Alex and how they end up being useful later on in the book. It's a good start.
Also, I'm 19 now and I'm no where near as cool as Alex is at 14 in the first book ahaaha oh well that's to be expected. I remember reading this when I was a kid and assuming that I would be that cool when I became 14. Oh, how I would've disappointed my 10 year old self if she could see me now.
Anyway, long overdue tangent that isn't even part of a review... I will be continuing to read this series.

Growing up this was one of my favourite series and today I was writing ablog post where I happened to mention this series and I suddenly got all nostalgic about Alex and his spying adventures. I am so glad I re-read this and I can't wait to continue re-reading this series.

This was a reread and honestly when I was 11 Alex being 14 was cool but now at age 21 it’s heartbreaking however it’s still just as entertaining and action packed. Thoroughly enjoyed it
