Great read, really exciting. However, I think the other books are a bit more stimulating and have more adventure.

Alex Rider was super popular when I was a kid. It was all everybody talked about, so I figured I'd give it a read and dive into it!
Quick Review:
I can see why it was so popular and I'm quite surprised it's not talked about much anymore. It's super cheesy but a great thrilling read. This kid is a spy on a mission and is determined to do his best. He comes across many challenges along the way, and it gives a child-like Mission Impossible or James Bond vibe.
If you're looking for a thriller YA book, grab this book! It's a great throwback to the early 2000s as well, so you're in for a treat!

As I sat down in my heather gray, jogger pants—made by Champion with DUODRY technology—and read this first book in the Alex Rider series, I realized that I hadn't ever read an action adventure thriller for kids before. The crisp, Carta E Ink screen of my Kobo Aura ONE—with built-in Overdrive library interface—illuminated my face with the ComfortLight PRO backlight, designed to reduce blue-light exposure for optimal nighttime reading. I was surprised, page by page, how much I was enjoying this book. It's true that the technology shaped my experience, but the words weren't so bad, either.
Every genre has a template, and action adventure novels are no different. It's not a genre I read much. I find the brand and specs details interspersed throughout the narrative more fitting as distracting elements than concrete details. However, the premise of this book—a young lad coerced into being a spy after a lifetime of covert training—was intriguing. Soon, the story pulled me in and despite weeks of avoiding the book, I was suddenly consumed by it.
My family calls, so I need to rush this. Horowitz convincingly portrayed a 14-year-old boy as a super spy. The story was darker than most YA books that I've read. I believe this was due, in part, to the omniscient point of view, allowing us to see inside the heads of evil or callous adults. Most YA is told in a first or limited third point of view. There was a lot of luck at play to keep Alex alive, but there was also a lot of believable pluck. Horowitz is a skilled writer. There were many scenes that were so uncomfortably dangerous that I was tempted to put the book down. For the most part, Alex survives by his wits in believable ways, the mystery is laid out for the reader to enjoy without plot elements being pulled out of thin air, and Alex never directly kills anybody. I don't believe a single daughter of mine will enjoy this book, but the young Hardy Boys reading lad that I was long ago would have eaten it up with glee. Excellent read. Thrilling story. Adventure loving young readers should enjoy it, but the menace and intensity of the story is something you should consider depending on their age.

still a great story so much so i read along with the audio book in one sitting
Characters
even though this is just the beginning of the series and the shortest book in the series no character felt like they were there for no reason
Plot
the hole series is very narrative based i liked that this one was set in the UK as it ment familiar landmarks were mentioned it made it easier to believe alex is some what a reluctant spy and was just a good introduction to what is to come in later books
Writing
i found the writing style to be quite visual this was helped by alex having particular brands of clothing the kind typical teenage boys wear and the gadgets looking or being modified versions of things a teen would have on them
Overall
i really enjoyed this book i am so glad i decided to re read it if you like action stories pick this book up

Didn't check, so didn't know this was a YA thriller. Probably a great read for middle schoolers who won't be critical of the massive plot caverns.
