I was actually very surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. YA hasn't been my favorite genre lately but this totally hooked me and kept me along for the ride!

Alex drove me a little crazy with her teenage, rebellion, dont-give-a-crap attitude sometimes but I understand where it comes from.
I definitely saw the twist of her being the second Apollyon coming. What is didn't see coming was her mom turning into a daimon! That was insane!

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WITH HER AND SETH THO! So I will definitely be continuing this series.

Hmmm. Again, I listened for the narrator. It was an enjoyable story, well written, not entirely sure. I'll finish the series. But if I need something light I might. One scene kind of made me cringe, but maybe 17 isn't underage in this universe.

This book was published almost a decade ago and it shows. Half-Blood makes a good attempt at a complete set of all the old-school YA tropes, including an angsty love triangle and an unwelcome appearance of slut shaming and girl hate. Combined with very little plot and a mediocre main character, there is little I can find to enjoy here in 2020. I'm sure 13-year-old me would have cherished this alongside Hush Hush and Fallen, but 23-year-old me is not impressed.

Was this book really basic? Yes. Was it similar to Vampire Academy and City of Bones? Also yes. But I still really enjoyed it! The authors writing style is so easy to get lost in, and I’ll eat up any book that involves training between the two love interests. It hits each time.

⭐3.5 estrellas⭐

I love a good kickass sassy main character and this book certainly delivers that. It almost gets 5 stars for setting up my favorite trope for the next book - two boyfriends!
It does not get five stars because despite how entertained I was… Greek Gods but we’re in Tennessee and North Carolina?? Jennifer what is going on with that?? I feel like these could have just been new Eastern American Gods and not the super Ancient Greek ones… but I’m very willing to find out if they become relevant because they sure weren’t in this first book or the prequel before it.

i definitely enjoyed this more the second time around !!
i think my first read was pretty recently after reading Vampire Academy and since it’s obvious that this book has many similarities i probably just didn’t feel the need to continue on with the series. especially at the beginning of the book it’s almost hard to seperate the two with how similar they are but thankfully the story takes a different turn and i enjoyed where this story differed from VA !!
most of the characters were great but i did find that i struggled with the MC and being in her head at times, she makes quite a few slut shaming comments as well as being very impulsive and irrational at times but as someone who can be very impulsive i find it a bit hypocritical of me to judge !! either way regardless of it’s flaws i still had lots of fun and am eager to get to the rest of the series !!
