One of my many free E-books that I'm slowly working my way through.
I almost put this away in the beginning, but it picked up after a few chapters. When our MCs embark on their journey I enjoyed their banter and how their relationship developed.
The language was fast paced but I didn't mind.
What I liked less:
-I gave a hard time understanding how these different cultures ended up taking sexual slaves to ensure their survival, instead of finding ways to work together.
- Why was this one ~150 pages book with a cliffhanger when book two is ~200 pages. Now it just felt like I read half a book.

I know I read it, but somehow it doesn´t show in any of my reading apps. Anyway, it was Okayish, the characters are meh, and I didn't like the priestesses at all. They all come off as sexual predators, surprising for a group of people who pledge celibacy to their goddess. All except our fMC, of course, because she's not like other girls, obviously. The centaurs aren't much better, since they kidnap priestesses to breed them. They seemed content, but again, the moment they have sex they lose their powers and any rank they held in their society, so what else were they going to do but stay with their kids, huh? The prestesses also keep the centaurs magically bound and use them as sex slaves for those women who want to have children (they still lose their status, and powers, and at some point they're expected to do it anyway). It ends on a cliffhanger and continues in the next book, but I'm not going to read that.

In the late 90s, I watched a lot of Xena: Warrior Princess. I remember precious little about it, but I recall vividly a plotline about a human lady and her centaur boyfriend, and how there was the single most terrifying pregnancy in the history of syndication. But what I wanted to know was how, precisely, said lady and her half-horse paramour knocked hooves slash boots.
So when I saw this on Stuff Your Ereader Day, I thought, I'm reading this for science! Reader, I still don't know. Apparently centaurs can turn in dudes? Like why even write monsterotica if you don't answer this important question.
Being goofy aside, this whole world is predicated on sex trafficking and sexual slavery in such a way that literally everyone is an evil asshole. NO ONE, not even the ostensible heroes thinks, maybe instituting rape on a societal level is bad? They're not into it in their specific instance, to be fair, but that's a bullshit cop out. Not great, Bob!

Very creative friends to lovers fantasy romance story! I loved the unique world building--I'm not sure I've ever read a romance with a centaur as the love interest and his powers and perspective were handled very well. I also enjoyed the double bind Seira and Toryin find themselves in. They have known each other long enough to respect each other as individuals while any time they run into people from their respective races, the focus shifts back to objectification, even in the face of a common enemy. As a warning, the story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, though not so bad that I wanted to throw the book--there is just a lot left to be discovered and resolved in the rest of the series.

I was really excited for a centaur love interest.... until he could change into a human? For some reason?? It was already a highly underdeveloped story that tries to force you to buy more books if you want to finish it, the heroine got pretty annoying after a while, and the author was a coward by not committing 100% to the centaur body. Is this a monster romance, or not? Smh. Super disappointing, but I guess I finished it, so... not 1 star material.
