I found I had some trouble adjusting to the pacing of this sorry. Albeit the story took place over the better part of a year, the gaps in time weren’t always obvious, and so it often felt like you as a reader were jumping from one thing, one feeling to the next. The FMC hating the MMC one chapter, and then the next chapter they were kissing.
I also found that there were parts of the book that had an unnecessary amount of description. Approximately 45 pages to describe getting to the island I felt some of this could have been dropped off, and it would not have negatively impacted the book. I also found that some of the language used at times felt like it was a bit juvenile, especially when it came to the two main characters romantic life.
The story itself was unique and has some good potential though, and I generally like the characters, both the living and the dead, but not sure yet if I’ll go on to read the other books in the series.

This book is so poorly edited that it distracted from my ability to enjoy the story. I'm not just talking words missing and bad grammar, the timelines are also all over the place. One minute you think one day has passed and the next, the protag is talking about how it's been several days or months. The love interest talks about how "every" interaction they have follows a certain theme, but as far as the reader knows they've interacted like, two or three times only? But then wait, now several months have passed so maybe not? But wait again, it's only been a week?
The backstory and magical lore is also very poorly developed. It's all quite superficial and a bit lazy. Maybe this is meant to be a "no thinking necessary" read but because I read so much of this genre I have a lot to compare to and this just doesn't hold a candle really.
I didn't hate it but of all the witchy romance type books out there, this would be very low on my list of recommendations.

Witches Get Stuff Done by Molly Harper is a fun and whimsical romp that follows a protagonist whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she’s a witch. The story kicks off with this surprising revelation and quickly escalates as she forms a blood vow to Shadow House—a mysterious, storied home with its own secrets. As she navigates her new magical reality, she finds herself making new friends and even stumbling into a budding romance, all while trying to figure out who is attempting to break into Shadow House and why.
While the plot offers plenty of intriguing elements, the narrative sometimes feels a bit scattered. The mystery behind the break-in and the significance of the blood vow are exciting ideas that occasionally get lost in a flurry of subplots. Although the mix of magic, friendship, and romance adds a lighthearted charm, the overall execution lacks the depth that these compelling plot points deserve.
Overall, Witches Get Stuff Done is an enjoyable read with a creative premise, even if it doesn’t fully deliver on all fronts. A solid 3-star effort that leaves you wanting just a bit more focus on its captivating central mysteries.
