A classic with a tell-tale message. If you get the chance to see a stage production, they can be just as good if not better than the book.

The writing is good and this book is a classic for a reason. My three star ratings come from my high school teenage self not enjoying the book. I wasn’t captivated by the story and it made me sad at certain parts (I’m going to keep it spoiler free for those that haven’t read the book yet) but I do believe this is one of those books people should read at one point in their life. It really makes you think about how you’d react in a similar situation.

Though this book was an allegory, I was pretty turned-off by the goriness involved. The cruelty from the kids was just too much for me.
