Didn't like the unnecessary usage of racist slurs considering Golding has a white privileged background also characters were frustrating and wasn't a good book to study.

i hated this book soooo much. as much as i admire symbolism and admire analyzing it, the repetitive use of it essentially made it lose its meaning (which i guess what the book was trying to saying about society? but it was a pain to read). the descent into "savagery" that the boys go through is portrayed through racist diction and cultural appropriation. also it's so boring im so sorry god i hate white classics, they're full of racism and awful themes about society. if you're reading this book for school, im praying for you, good luck

Rereading this book for the first time since high school, I do still think the storyline is interesting, however, I either forgot about or wasn't educated enough in high school to recognize the racist themes and comments throughout the book, making it a much lower rating than it otherwise would be.
I did enjoy the commentary on power, how control and imbalances are so fluid. Although this focuses specifically on wealthy, white boys, it is still a valid criticism of society considering the number AND percentage of rich, white men in power today, although does not address any level of intersectionality.

Well written and an interesting concept, though the author's portrayal of 'savagery' makes me feel quite uncomfortable, clearly implying that British 'civilisation' is morally superior to a jungle/forest lifestyle.
