Interesting story with mostly well rounded characters. I loved the character of Neve. She was relatable and felt like a real person, while her sister just felt obnoxious to me. While I didn’t like the character of Red, I actually appreciate that I had a strong negative reaction to her, because it means she was well developed enough for me to care. I appreciated the pacing in this novel as it didn’t feel rushed. I find it difficult to read stories that are constantly just trying to get to the next big event, where the author here took their time to build out the narrative.
What I found annoying was the description of people every time they were mentioned. I know everyone’s eye color, hair style, and with the amount of lip chewing going on I’m pretty certain no one has a mouth left. When these descriptions are overused like they are in this book, it feels like the author is just trying to increase their word count. It’s lazy writing that I see a lot in YA novels. I wish editors would tell people to stop doing that because it’s really distracting and minimizes the impact of the descriptions where it counts.

Reading slump hit and then too much time lapsed. Plan to pick this back up again, but can't see myself doing so in the immediate future.

I wanted to enjoy this, but the language is so repetitive and nothing is happening plot-wise. Just not invested in the story or characters. Too bad because I enjoyed For the Wolf quite a bit.
