I am still so happy I found this series a few years ago! Definitely a great series for anyone who loves YA Fantasy with magic! Also, the typical enemies to lovers trope.
This final book in the series definitely closed off well! I appreciate how the author resolved everything, but not necessarily in the way you'd expect. I'm super excited for the prequel she is now working on!!
As far as what happens in this book, I really can't say since it's the final book in a series. But I definitely think my favorite character at this point would be Darren because he seems to feel with his entire heart.

This book was amazing. The heartache and emotions throughout kept me so engaged I finished the book in one day. Which I also happen to do with the other four books. Which is a testament to the incredible story and writing. The book kept breaking my heart at every opportunity. I just kept waiting for Ryiah and Darren to finally be happy together and then the scene with the knife… my heart was pounding. The epilogue repaired my shattered heart. Darren’s thoughts on how Ryiah and him found their way back to each other and the introduction of Eve. There own happy little family. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending than their family returning to Jerar to be able to spend the rest of their lives with the loved ones they left behind and the teaching job. Just a perfect happy ending. Ryiah and Darren deserved no less

"Every hero was a villain in the end. War was corrupting us all."
You know, as much as I dislike the series as a whole, I do think the last two books were a bit better than the first two. This series is flawed, I have many, many problems with it. But one thing is for sure, it's addictive. Sure I skimmed some (ehm... many) parts, especially in book two, but it had its fast paced, entertaining moments and I think that this book was the better instalment from them. But all in all, it's such a frustrating, overly melodramatic series with hot and cold love interest and insconsistent romance which is either up one moment or completely down the next. I do think that, in the very end, some part of Darren redeemed itself in my eyes. Though I still dislike him for the most part, just as I will never be the biggest fan of the Ryia. But in the end, I accepted them and yeah, don't mind them as much. (Blame falls on the epilogue!)
"In fairy tales, the prince saved the girl. In mine, the princess destroyed him."
P.S. Ian is still 1000000% better person than both of the main characters!
P.P.S It's a weird day on this planet when Priscilla (the epitome of high school bitch queen in cliché movies) seems almost more reasonable than the MC. I did like the surprising depth to her character in the few secenes she was in.
“I regret very little.” Priscilla met my eyes. “But I regret that first year at the Academy, Ryiah. In another life, I think we could have been friends.”

This book was heartbreaking. The beginning half of the book was so hard to get through because the whole time Ryiah was constantly thinking about how she was betraying her husband. It was constant and in my opinion, unnecessary. A few mentions would have gotten the message across without feeling like overkill. The second half of the book was much better once the action actually started and that's when you could really feel the pain of the characters rather than just hearing about it. It was heart-wrenching. The ending was a good wrap-up to the series.

I really wanted to love this but it wasn’t my favourite in the series unfortunately. Darren and Ryiah both annoyed me separately, and as always I wanted a bit more ferocity from Ry. When it comes to Darren, she always lets him off way too easily and there’s never any anger for his (in my opinion) inexcusable actions. Even though this finale wasn’t my favourite, i am sad this series has ended as I have really enjoyed reading it, and Rachel E Carter is a great writer so I can’t wait to see what else she comes out with!

This series is just so good, even though this book definitely crushed my heart it's still an amazing book with amazing characters that I just love!
All of the characters in this book go through some major emotional trauma, it's was so difficult to read sometimes because I had become so attached to the characters that having them hating each other and treating the other the way they had was just awful!
It was so gripping though, I couldn't put it down. I read it one sitting because I just needed to know what happened!
I was a bit uncomfortable which just how much Darren did to Ryiah during the time he thought she was lying, for a love that strong I refuse to believe someone was physically capable of doing something that awful to someone they had fought so hard to be with, despite what he believed. Also, that he didn't believe her or even really let her explain even though he knew Ryiah and claimed to understand her. I just don't think it was right. This did make the ending better though, he literally couldn't live with what he had done to her and his kingdom because he was too angry to see sense. He really messed up and he ended up punishing himself more than anyone else did!
I loved Ryiah in this, she went through so much but she never once gave up hope because she knew the real Darren and refused to believe that he wouldn't see through the rage and realise the truth and in the end she got him back even if it did mean losing everyone else.
That ending also, when they get reunited with their families and they have their daughter it was just perfect for them!
I really loved this but it was very emotional, it was so well written and I adore this series. It's just going to take some time to get over!
