I really like Bregman. The book made me ask a lot of questions about myself and hope i can change in the future. I think this is a must read.
A polemic arguing humans are better than certain experiments or newspapers would have us believe. Debunks some "well known" experiments or articles. Would prefer less opinion and more facts but still an interesting read

I really liked this book, mostly the first half or so - really interesting takes (with evidence) on early humans and civilizations. Very well researched. It started to lose me when it got to more recent times, and the author went off the rails a little bit . Anyway, all in all a very good book, but like most, doesn't quite hold up the standard until the very end. Would still recommend it as lots of things to be learned from it, you just have to use your critical thinking skills and own judgement in a few places.
Spoiler
basically going "kids used to play outside and didn't have ADHD because they used their energy blah blah". Not in very good taste and also, not true. Compared to the rest of the book that claim has no value and it seems lazy

What a bizarrely frustrating book. On the one hand it's lovely and hopeful, and has some things in it that I'm very much looking forward to researching further, and I guess I think I'd highly recommend reading it.
On the other, it's frighteningly privileged and astonishingly lazy for a book that required so much research. Did you know that one of the reasons we're in the most bestest time ever is because slavery has been abolished across the entire planet? WTF. It's Islamaphobic. He's talking about Colombian guerillas without mentioning who started and for decades funded literally all of that unrest and conflict. Also in the advice bit at the end one of the main bits of advice, from the whole book, was Don't Punch Nazis. We're supposed to gently respectfully be nice at them until they see the error of their ways. On that note, on multiple occasions he talked about how awful it was that the Nazis had killed 6 million Jews, with no mention at all of the other literal millions of human beings they killed in the same ways. Also he claimed that no one knows the mysterious origins of the "two wolves inside of you parable", which anyone with five minutes and an internet connection could figure out. Blargh.
