took me nearly two years to finish because i was buddy-reading this with my bf and i saved the last 10 pages for the last 20+ months (!!!) for him to catch up. i finally gave up and savored the final moments of this book this morning. hua hsu's writing is a treat and i'm in awe of the ways he honors his friend's memory and confronts raw grief.
a lovely memoir on friendship and grief that strays from meandering too much on the latter while still highlighting the love and mourning process for his friend with vividness

This is a beautiful memoir
this book took me for a long and painful journey of love, friendship and grief, that felt extremely real. though i haven’t experienced any of them the way Hua Hsu has (and i won’t because friendship, love, grief and so many other things are personal and different for everybody), his book captured me and brought me new feelings, as if i’d lived through it too. it made me reflect on how i view the world and its injustices, how i see life as a whole and one’s purpose in it, one’s story.
