Okay. As I mentioned on my corrupted chaos review, I love love love these books and read them separately before I even realized they were connected. So your probably (not) asking why I only gave a 3 star review. The plot lines done match up in my brain. Like In CC Izzy is a hacker and in this one, she’s getting her sister arrested and is a special operative. How exactly does that work? I don’t know.

Yeah, I read this in a book funk. I just finished reading the Harris Brothers series by Amy Daws and was in a slump so I tried this. Yeah. Not a great read, even if I wasn’t in a book slump. The story idea itself is ok, this is just executed well in my opinion.
I am having a hard time starting this review, because I don't even know where to begin. I was told this book was where the MMC was OBSESSED. With the amount of actual obsessed MMCs I've read about, this wasn't that, babe.
I will be so fucking for real when I say this book could have been at least 100 pages shorter. For SO MUCH of this, it was painful and, like, not in a good way. The clear push and pull for almost the entirety of the book... *slaps the cylinder closed to round the revolver on my temple*
H: I want you.
*sex*
h: I don't want you.
h: JK I want you now.
*sex*
H: It wont work.
H: JK I want you.

h: It cant work.
Over and over and over for eternity. I was this close to DNFing.
While I understand her mental health struggles (as someone who has major depressive disorder with suicidal tendencies, CPTSD, panic disorder, along with a plethora of other diagnosis overseen by a psychiatrist), I had an extremely hard time with the FMC and her excuses. She came off looking like the child she screamed at everyone not to treat her as. ESPECIALLY if she said she was in therapy. If she really was in therapy, I can tell you right now, half the shit she was doing and not doing would not have been advised from a mental health professional like she had implied.
Also, fuck Izzy. She does not deserve her own book. If you didn't like Nesta in ACOTAR enough not to read her novel- same shit.
What I will say, the little spurts of action was good. It was nice to see there were finally elements of a mafia romance and not just the ENTIRETY about the sex they have.
All this to say, I do know that this is fantasy as it is a NOVEL. So, if you enjoy the true agony of push and pull for 200+ pages, FMC that whines like a child she says she isn't, and the miscommunication trope, this 100% is going to be for you. Good luck. I'm hoping her New Reign Mafia duet will garner something other than mild disappointment from me like this review clearly hadn't.
