This was so different from the Jane Jameson books, that I wasn't sure that I was going to like it. Sadie and Kelsey absolutely had me laughing out loud while others looked at me funny. The drama between Sadie and Josh was also very funny and infuriating at times. Altogether exactly what one expects from Molly Harper.

I'm planning to do a joint review/discussion with my friend Mel on our review blog, Book Crush later in the week, but I wanted to jot down some of my initial thoughts on the book here in the meantime.

Since I really enjoyed And One Last Thing..., I was pretty excited about reading another book by Molly Harper that takes place in a realistic world. I love her paranormal books, but it's fun to experience different realms with my favorite authors.

My Bluegrass Baby has that humor I've come to expect from Molly Harper as well as the quirky characters that manage to get themselves into the strangest situations, so on that front I was satisfied.

I didn't love the book quite as much as I was expecting to, though. I enjoyed it quite a lot, and I liked that there was a more serious undertone to the story. That was something that I had liked so much about And One Last Thing... as well.

However, I didn't seem to click with the story quite so quickly. I didn't like Josh much at all until probably halfway through the book. Of course, a lot of this probably had to do with Sadie's feelings toward him, but it took me some time to really get on board with his character. I came around in the end, though, and by the time I finished I was really enjoying the book.

My Bluegrass Baby is bright, bubbly, and fun. How else would you describe a book that opens in a bathroom stall immediately after the main character has tossed her cookies? But it is not because she is hungover, this media maven has a severe case of nervousness. Sadie is lovable, quirky and owns the fact that she's pretty. She is also determined to become marketing director for the Kentucky Tourism Commission and is pretty much a shoe in for the job until Josh Vaughn walks into her life and becomes her main competition and potential new boyfriend. The characters are charming including the State of Kentucky. Molly Harper makes Kentucky more than just a backdrop; the state is also a quirky, lovable character that you get to know as the book progresses.

But, back to Josh, Sadie and their office full of characters. What made this book such a great read was the relationship between these people, the fast paced story, and the sharp dialogue. Josh and Sadie's love/hate relationship is interesting and kept me interested. Add to that the competition to see who finally does become marketing director and how that conflict pulls in the supporting characters and you have a pretty compelling novel. The weakest part of My Bluegrass Baby is the ending. Josh's decision felt rushed and did not fit the ""person"" Harper built him up to be throughout the book. In spite of that, My Bluegrass Baby is at the top of my list for light reading by the pool or on the beach. It's a fun story with some great characters.

I wasn't sure if I'd like a book with "bluegrass" in the title, but. I should have had more faith in Ms Harper. I've yet to read a book by her that I didn't love. The characters were fun and realistic, and the story was very believable. Ms Harper makes reading fun and exciting, with rather strange plot twists that keep you in your toes. I'm off to read the next story in this series!

It's not a secret that I am a Molly Harper's fan. I adored her Naked Werewolf series and contemporary romance [b:And One Last Thing ...|7100200|And One Last Thing ...|Molly Harper|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1304638933s/7100200.jpg|7358015]. I always pick Molly Harper's book when I need to have a good laugh and hang out with some interesting characters.
Sadly, the chemistry Molly and I used to have was not present while I read [b:My Bluegrass Baby|15801167|My Bluegrass Baby|Molly Harper|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358832079s/15801167.jpg|21524528]. Maybe my expectation were set too high, maybe you need to be from Kentucky to find the situations funny, ... well whatever happened this was just average chick-lit contemporary romance to me.

Sadie Hutchins is one step away from getting a promotion in tourism agency when big-city golden-boy Josh Vaughn sweeps in and gets it instead. After her complaint to the boss, she gets a second opportunity to prove herself - Josh and Sadie both have to make a ad for the Kentucky tourism and the best one wins.
There a lot of hostility and back-stabbing going on. All spiced up with unwanted attraction and sprinkled with fun facts about Kentucky's customs, events and traditions that I found the most interesting part of this novel.

My rating: 3 stars. If it was some other author, I may even give it 4 stars, but Molly Harper spoiled me - sorry but from her I expected better.

Will I be reading something else written by Molly Harper? Yes, I am counting this book as a fluke, so she still has a fan in me. :)

Disclaimer: I was given a free eBook by the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for a honest review.

Twee boeken geprobeerd van deze auteur en daar blijft het bij. Nog veel te veel leukere ongelezen boeken op mijn "stapel".
