I would rec this only for superfans, which I've realized i am not. there were a few stories meaty enough to make me feel like I learned something new abt the characters/world, but most were slivers of life + the author's explanations for how she came up with things

What is not to love of Megan Whalen Turner! I loved the insights into her process, her world travels and adventures, and the compilation of short stories from the world she created and left for us to discover like hidden treasure. She continues to experiment with style and prose, and all of it works. I love identifying influences to her writing, especially since they are so diverse due to her world travels. It makes me want to be a museum person, a travel person, a short story person.

This was quietly lovely. I wish I had read it shortly after reading her series though. I’d forgotten many of the characters, even though I’ve read her books many times. I guess it’s time to reread them. :-)

What a gift to have all these short stories combined into one volume. I especially love all the stories that have earrings in the title, as well as the concluding one which tells us of the lineage of Eugenides and Irene- their journey away from the Little peninsula and back again.

Really loved this series and this was fun to go back to that world. The last story really punches you in the gut, however. Is there more to come? It reads like a prologue. For sure a love letter to fans of the series, it doesn’t stand on its own.
