NINJAK IS COOL!

Why are standard volumes so short these days?! When volumes like Ultimate Spiderman and Deadpool Classic first started coming out, they contained 6-7 issues a volume and I, as a new comic book reader who couldn’t get enough of anything, was content with the thickish book that took me two to three days to finish. Now, a standard volume is only 3-4 issues thick and I’m finished with them like that.

The reason I’m complaining is because this story of Aric the chosen Visigoth is pacing itself nicely, really taking its time with the story and I appreciate that. But when a volume only holds 3-4 issues, I get through it quickly and have to wait till I can get the next one. I guess that’s the downside of not buying monthly issues off the shelf.

But this story just keeps getting better. Enter Ninjak introduces Ninjak in the Manowar story, but is he friend of foe to Aric? I’m not going to say, ‘cuz that’s spoilers, but I will say he is a pretty damn cool character. Like Snake-Eyes from G.I. Joe, but cooler…I think (there needs to be an epic crossover so the two can death-battle-it-out).

While not absolutely blown away by volume one of this series, as I sat thinking about it, I decided I wanted to know what happened when a Visigoth from circa 400 AD crashed to modern day Earth in an advanced suit of alien tech.

This volume advanced the story a little and made it a bit more intriguing. The fever pitch of action continued, supplemented by a bit of conspiracy, aliens, and uneasy alliances.

The art remained about the same in this volume as it was I volume one. There was some nice cover work and the interiors weren't awful, but not absolutely breathtaking either.

Recommended for: those curious about Valiant comics and lovers of sci-fi tinged stories with aliens and their awesome tech.

*- I read this book as digitally downloaded single issues of X-O Manowar #s 5-8

This tpb was SO MUCH BETTER than the first volume! I enjoyed it. The sci-fi side of Valiant was much redeemed to me after reading this. My expectations were low, so I might change my rating when I reread some day, but, regardlessly, it rocked!
