I wanted to loove this book- cool cover, cool concept, lovely setting and it was giving me I Who Have Never Known Men vibes, but I finished it kinda just wanting more from it. While I enjoyed all the parts with her taking care of all the animals, it just got boring. I can only imagine how she felt IF IM THE ONE THAT GOT BORED and I'm not stuck behind a wall in the Austrian alpine with a cow, cat and dog for years. It did make me think about how different this book would have gone if it was a man in this situation though lol. A book I'm glad I read and I think I'll still be thinking of later.
"even now, i’m nothing but a thin skin covering a mountain of memories."
”Since my childhood I had forgotten how to see things with my own eyes, and I had forgotten that the world had once been young, untouched and very beautiful and terrible. I couldn’t find my way back there, since I was no longer a child, and no longer capable of experiencing things as a child, but loneliness led me, in moments free of memory and consciousness, to see the great brilliance of life again.”

This one is tricky to review. It is one of the most ‘nothing’ books out there - almost nothing happens at all, there is no great mystery even though the premise is a big mystery. Yet, it was still really engaging throughout. Essentially it’s just some diary entries of living in a forest with some animals, but somehow I still wanted to continue reading. I don’t think I’ll read it again, nor recommend it, but I did weirdly enjoy it
