This book is so cute and the writing is absolutely beautiful, but everything happened a little too fast in my opinion. I understand that I'm not the target age, but there was almost no tension as everything always kinda worked out.
Also the way this book ended just makes me mad. The whole time we're waiting to learn more about moonstone and we didn't even get to that. The story ends on the most random place ever. I get that cliffhangers are great and it makes me want to read the next book, but there's gotta be some conclusion to the first book. Otherwise I see no point in having two books, just put them together.
I really liked all the different animal meetings though. I'd recommend this book to people looking for a quick magical story!

It’s a fine book for kids. I picked it up thinking it would be a little more young adult than it was. No hate meant, it’s just not really my thing anymore.

On the one hand this is a nice friendship story which tackles important subjects like death, environmental issues, cultural issues, pejudice while showing there is no black and white and including animal folklore, but on the other hand, as many things I want to criticise.

1. While the fox on the cover is definitely authentic and amazing (even though it looks more like a red fox with white fur than a polar fox) the illustrations on the inside are not even close to how a polar fox looks like. A polar bear, more likely. The art was not appealing and looked overly simplified.
2. I have to assume that the book is written beautifully in Chinese. Maybe even in English. But the German translation is clunky, simplistic and not beautiful at all. To worsen it, they changes some names of the characters to make them sound more German, which was a terrible decision in my opinion.
3. The plot iself had big pacing problems and ended up with some big genre tropes.
Worst part? This is only half the story.

I am not really impressed, but I might want to continue to know if Dilah can really transform into a human.

Wow this was amazing.

This is a children's book about a white arctic fox named Dilah who goes on a quest to find a hidden treasure that would help him become a human. He meets a lot of friends along the way and has to fight different enemies - including his older brother.

I loved this book. Not just because I love foxes- but because the story was so simple and charming but also intriguing. I love that this book doesn't shy away from death despite being a children's book. The characters die - and stay dead. They don't get magically revived, they don't come back - they die in violent ways and they don't come back. And it's not just the bad characters that die, good ones do too so nobody is safe and you are constantly kept on your toes not knowing weather the main characters will live or die - especially with a lot of intense battles happening where the enemy has an advantage and you don't know how the protagonists will get out alive or if they will get out alive.

I also love the slight hint of magic and fantasy - the books is still about foxes and it's somewhat realistic, but there is just enough magic present that it keeps you engaged and enchanted. The protagonists are also not pure good heroes that never do anything wrong and always make it out alive and well - I loved that about this book - it has both flawed protagonists and flawed villains. Not many children's books have that.

I might be biased because I love foxes, but darn it, I loved this book and I can't wait to read the next one as soon as it comes out in English.
