This book is built on a great premise, a Sci-fi version of the Canterbury Tales. It's compelling and both rich in detail and nuance. It is a bit of a heavy read but definitely worth the effort. Would recommend to anyone looking for their next great read.

I honestly probably could've liked this book I just wasn't vibing with the set up. There's only one female character and the initial pov is immediately making uncomfortable comments about her. It also just is so much scifi language immediately that I was having trouble keeping up with things.

I feel like I've just read a very long shaggy dog story. There's lots of buildup and no payoff. It's like watching a series of the Twilight Show - seven wacky episodes with no connection between them or any over-arching plot. Some parts are vaguely interesting but nothing special and it never dives beneath the superficial.

Well written, but essentially a 482 page prologue for the second book….

Imo opinion the best Sci fi novel ever written... In one novel Dan Simmons has managed to create one of the most vast and richest Sci fi words I've ever seen. In one novel he managed to create such an incredibly deep and fleshed out cast of main characters where anyone can be the MC. Within a 70 page short story, Dan Simmons has made me cry harder than any piece of fiction ever has... It has flaws and it's maybe not for everyone. But man...
