By far the best book I read this year. This is one you need to read and buy copies to give your loved ones to read. It is a memoir of a Holocaust survivor and how she was able to work past the most terrible traumas anyone could have to experience in their life. It’s a reminder that we can choose to be a victim, or to chose to move on with our lives.
An amazing memoir written by a woman who, as a teenager, was imprisoned in German concentration camps. It is a story of her experiences, her survival, but most importantly, her psychological recovery from such a horrific experience.
As an adult post-war immigrant to America, Eger went to college and eventually got her PhD in Psychology. Despite the fact that she could help other people, for decades after her liberation, she was tormented by PTSD and would get nervous and often cower if she heard a siren or saw a military figure. Eventually she confronted her own worst memories head-on; she made a choice to deal with those fears and memories rather than just trying to bury them.
I found this incredibly inspiring. If she can get past experiences more awful than most of us can imagine, then I can get through my own life.

Holocaust/Aushwitz survivor Dr. Edith Eger teaches us how to find freedom from trauma for ourselves by confronting grief, fear, shame and guilt.
I listened to this on Audible with a reader with a beautiful German accent. BONUS!!
I enjoyed this memoir/self-awareness building book. It is, however, important to remember not to compare your struggles with the author's. Take what you need and apply it. Egers journey is uplifting and I just love when people take their struggles and use them for good. I also adore the teacher who remembers she's always a student. This is Eger. Beautiful stories of love, acceptance, self-awareness, and more. I'll revisit this one.

OMG this was such a good book. I listened to the audiobook, which I feel like made it even more special. Hearing Edith's struggles in Auschwitz was so terrifying and inspiring. Her work as a therapist amazes me.
I wept while reading this at the beach. I got some weird looks. And it was worth it.
This memoir is absolutely beautiful, inspiring, life-altering. Edith Eger is one hell of an impressive human being and this might just be one of my favorite books ever. Absolutely recommended for everyone. But if you're interested in psychology at all this might just become your new favorite.

This is an incredible book! So much more than a survivor story. We can all learn SO much from Edith Eger.
Amazing memoir of holocaust survival and then working to be free of the prison of the mind.
This memoir was written by an amazing woman (Dr. Edith Eger) who survived the Holocaust, immigrated to the United States, and later in life became a therapist. This book was an extraordinary account of history as well as one of personal survival and healing. Dr. Eger's story of perseverance was so compelling, but equally absorbing was her path toward growth and healing (of both herself and others). In fact, Dr. Eger thrived which resulted in her ability to dispense such incredibly powerful wisdom.
I believe this book probably should be required reading for anyone doing therapeutic and healing work. In addition, I think this book would be extremely worthwhile for anyone who has been through trauma. However, I contend that this read would be beneficial to anyone who simply wants to be inspired or learn ways to address life's challenges.
Dr. Edith Eger focuses a lot on the power of our choices and our ability to free ourselves. Readers gain insights both from Dr. Eger's own personal story but also through several stories related to her patients. There were so many relevant messages in this book. I found myself jotting down notes frequently. I believe others will find this book not only riveting but extremely helpful as well.
