Een erg treurig boek, te treurig voor mij.

What a fascinating read! This is probably one of the few fiction books I’ve ever read that is explicitly told from the point of view of someone experiencing homelessness, living in encampments in Tokyo. The story weaves poverty and grief into a narrative that raises questions about humanity, justice, and the way we process trauma.

Very short indeed. Captures a man after he has passes away as he reflects on his regrets with his family and society’s perception of homelessness. I thought a lot about shared city space while reading this book since it expands over a long period of time and has a number of historical references and monuments.

The book is written well, but not enough to make me care much about the Kazu or the people around him. It's making an important point, which would have been more deeply felt with more rounded characters.
