I’m a big admirer of ER, but this felt dated, was repetitive, and a little too clueless about her level of privilege.  It was recommended on a list I’d seen of must-reads, but I think not.

I had never been a fan of Eleanor Roosevelt's until this book, but afterwards I was definitely a fan. I found her advice extremely relevant and useful.

Such a wonderful woman who gave great advice we can all learn from.

I’d say this is by far the best self-help book I’ve ever read. Lives up to its title. Not too good to be true. Not oblivious or pretentious, but honest with the realities of life. Having found this book is like a miracle for my life’s current situation, and I believe, will still be one of my miracles (or a gentle reminder) to any of my life’s circumstances.

This book does not have all the answers to all of life’s questions, but this is a good start to get the hang of it somehow.

Thank you, Eleanor Roosevelt, for this gem. You have definitely left this world richer with this book.

Believe the hype! This is a great book for any point in life: single and miserable, or happily married. Many phrases highlighted and pages bookmarked for references and pick-me-ups. I knew Eleanor was a magnificent women, but I had no idea she was an extraordinary human. Still so many thoughts flying in my head that I will need to update this review at a later time.

A quick read. It seems to me that Eleanor was one classy lady. I'd say that 98% of the advice given in this book is timeless. If you want tips from a former generation on how to make small talk, become active in politics, teach children, this is a great resource.

In the book "My Year with Eleanor" the author applies Eleanor Roosevelt's challenge of doing "one thing a day that scares" you. It would be an interesting New Year's resolution to try and emulate Mrs. Roosevelt by creating habits based on the advice from "You Learn by Living."

This book is a treasure-trove of quotable wisdom. Clearly, it's an auto-biographical account, so you have to take some with a grain of salt, and I even rolled my eyes at some points. But it was a fascinating look into the life of an unarguably great women. It's a very short, easy read.

Brilliant insight from one of history’s leading cultural figures. Even sixty years after its original publication, the advice and perspective remain relevant.
