The first half of this book suffers hugely from the characters' (very reasonable) trauma being processed by everyone going solo, blaming themselves, lashing out, and refusing to work together or act like their usual selves. Again -- fair, they are processing the but not done in a way that's fun to read. The second half picks up and becomes extremely fun when . I especially enjoyed . Hopefully we're done with character alone time for the next few bits, because when the characters are together it's honestly a super fun dynamic.

Catti-Brie and Artemis Entreri are forced to become a dynamic violence team as they attempt to heist Drizzt from where he's got himself damseledSpoiler
Artemis Entreri being forced to drink 'Respect Catti-Brie' juice as she did things like 'take on an entire herd of minotaurs' and 'drop an enormous stalactite on the most important building in Menzoberranzan'
This book is fine, nothing impressive or anything for me to dislike in it. I will say that Drizz’t continues to be an unbelievable character in that he doesn’t seem to have any flaws. I’m like nine books into the series and he’s never really done something wrong. He seems to be morally unblemished in his personal life and in his battles. I feel like there is some character shallowness that may have been missed by Salvatore.

Dear god was this book amazing!
The Good:
Drizzt is awesome, as always. But he's extra awesome here, showing that he's willing to sacrifice everything to save those dear to him. There's also a surprise appearance by someone that Drizzt saved in the original trilogy.
This finally made me go for Belwar. Such an awesome villain.
It was consistently engaging the entire time.
Cattie-brie finally got to be a badass with her bow, and went in to save Drizzt.
The Great: Most of the last third reminded me of when the Fellowship was running from the Balrog, it felt just as exciting, and it earned this book its fifth star.
And of course, tons and tons of awesome fight scenes. If you like sword and sorcery, I can't recommend this enough

Maybe I have higher standards for Bob after the last book, but this one was a drag to me. Really only felt like an escape because the right things were in the right places. Shut the book thinking “well that was lucky” and ready to move on.
Salvatore returns to Menzoberranzan, an interesting setting, but Drizzt and his girlfriend are full-blown unsufferable. There's an interesting turn with Artemis Entreri.
