As far as Salvatore's tales and stories of Drizzt go, this one seems longer... and the reason is... not apparent.
The plot is fine however, what this addition to the Legend of Drizzt is missing is character development and lack of proper motivation. Does Drizzt learn more about himself? Yes and no.
Do the drow have some evil plan they're concocting? Yes... and no.
Hoping things become clearer in the next book.

As usual Salvatore's description of fight sequences is unparalleled and keeps you gasping and wincing for the characters. Another action packed tale!

This is one of :R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt Do'Urden/Forgotten Realms books and is the second book in the Legacy of the Drow series.  I've never been very crazy about ANY book that is based off of a Dungeons and Dragons world.  My husband really loves all of the Forgotten Realms books, so we have a lot of them sitting around the house.  And, of course, if there is a book sitting in the house, I will eventually even up reading it.  That's just the way I roll.

In my opinion, these Drizzt books were made for middle school aged boys.  In fact, when I taught middle school, I knew a few students who loved R.A. Salvatore books.  There's plenty of action in this book but not a lot of content.

Drizzt is a cool character, and if you have read other Drizzt series, you really get to know his character and experiences.  The reader also gets a chance to see Cattie-brie again, who I like quite a bit.  However, to me, the characters are the best thing about the book.  But I'm not sure if they save the lackluster plot.

Drizzt novels are not exactly high quality literature (see my comment previously about being meant for middle school-aged boys.  This one is a fairly easy read, but is not great writing.  I know there are a ton of people who love everything and anything Drizzt (my husband included), but these books are not the first thing I would choose to read.

Overall, I just wasn't really impressed with this book.  I liked the books in the Dark Elf Trilogy much better.  If you are looking for something with mind-numbing action, then I suppose you'd probably like this book.  However,  I can definitely say that I will not be picking up this book again.  Two stars.

After being a little disappointed in the last installment of the series this felt better again. I think the overall plot was fairly weak and felt more of an excuse than anything else but I liked that this book felt way more reminiscent to The Dark Elf Trilogy which has been my overall favorite so far as Drizzt’s journey brings him back into the city of his birth: Menzoberranzan, which is just a cool setting in itself.

To get into characters I’m gonna have to be a little spoilery (I’m just gonna hide the big ones, so if you’re really sensitive stop reading.

I’m starting to get annoyed at some of the recurring characters, mainly the human assassin Artemis Entreri who just feels very one dimensional
and really another fake-out death
? I liked though that Catti-Brie gets a more central role although that being the role of "babysitter" for the most time. I really hope that we don’t get the romance between her and Drizzt
with the way for that being paved now after Wulfgar’s death in the last novel
The real star of this novel imo is Jarlaxle. I think he is just fascinating, mischievous, and conniving and I really love the screen time we get with him which was quite a lot in this book.

Otherwise this novel feels a lot like setup and there are some cool plot threads that I hope will get picked up.

Funny side remark to end this review: I’m listening to the books on audio and these are some older editions. I think this novel had the 4th different narrator so far and everyone of them used different pronunciations for a lot of the Drow/Elvish names which I guess is a great indicator for creative Fantasy names? ;)
