A very interesting concept inviting a lot of discussion and possibilities. Was it perfect? No. Some things even a little problematic even, but I can see how the author thought they'd help drive the character's narrative. Many different perspectives and outcomes, which was nice; could have had many more examples, but I understand having to choose and I assume (yes, I know) the author chose the ones most interesting to him. This was my first John Marrs and I will read more, he has good, original ideas and I'm intrigued.

Okay.....what did I read lol I'd give this 3.5 stars.

I heard so much about this book and how great it was so I had to read it. It was kinda hard to follow because there are so many ppl introduced at the start. Not my fav read but it was good and a very interesting story line and plot.

The One has been a wild read from start to finish, with each short chapter finishing in a plot twist, some of which were predictable, others being unbelievable. Occasionally I found myself thinking “surely xyz won’t happen” and then it happened, which was crazy.
I enjoyed Christopher and Nick’s storylines the most, but Ellie’s was the one I was most shocked by - completely fascinating and central to the plot.
Whilst the plot was brilliant, the writing certainly wasn’t, and there is a lot to be desired in terms of language and sentence structure. This is an accessible read, and that limits the story quite a bit.
I’m also not a massive fan of the way Marrs depicts women; they’re all quite one dimensional and are reduced to stereotypes more often than not. It reeks a bit of 90s-00s misogyny, and this meant I wasn’t able to find much joy in reading the female POVs.
Overall, a fascinating book but nothing to write home about.

Super interesting concept.  I thought there were too many side stories and
thought they would all maybe connect at the end, but then they didn’t??

Such an interesting take on dating. Some thing that I never really have thought of, but could imagine many people wanting to take this DNA test. I love how each story is unique, but also comes together to make us all understand how big of an issue this could really be.

At first I didn’t think I’d like this story, but something about it snagged my imagination. I’ve never like the star crossed lovers trope, or believed that we each have one perfect match. This book sort of explores that idea. It surprised me several times and held my attention.
