It was a quick and easy read, even though I had trouble getting into it at the start.
It did feel like a book I’d forget soon. The characters were alright, but none I fell in love with. I’ll remember it for a bit though, because I held out a hope for the ending and it crushed it.
I’ve been in a slump for a while and I picked up the book to feel something. Felt it in the last few pages, and that’s good enough for me.

Good read, quick read.
This YA contemporary romance actually managed to surprise me.
Some sparks of fantasy scattered in it, gave this a magical, witty and charming appeal. Living and loving in the moment, something we always forget in the constant to and fro of things .
And the real lesson that ending is not the important parts of a story was portrayed quite effectively.

i really enjoyed this book! i haven’t read a true YA romance in a while, and i was worried it might lean too heavily into insta-love but it ended up being just right. Evie and X took their time getting to know each other and their relationship developed through meaningful, eye-opening conversations.
the story explores heavy themes like divorce, infidelity, and the death of a friend, all of which are handled with emotional depth. even though there are some very hard discussions going on in this book characters like Fifi, Martin, and even Evie herself made it lighthearted. i had so many good laughs throughout.
this story really made me reflect both on my own and in conversations with others. one of the biggest takeaways for me was the idea that past hurt and heartbreak shouldn’t stop you from giving or receiving love. the book reminds us not to let fear of the future keep us from embracing the joys of the present, or let fear of the unknown rob us of what we already have.
love isn’t limited. we lose friends, family, and people we care about but that doesn’t mean love is gone forever. it can return, whether through the same people or new ones who come into our lives. i especially appreciated Evie’s mindset and how deeply affected she was by her father’s betrayal and her parents’ divorce. it felt so real and relatable. i’m glad the story allowed her to find her way back to herself, and to rediscover the meaning of love.

I loved this book soooooooooooo much I could feel the sexual tension coming out of the pages
Mentionable quotes:
“ Happiness is tricky. Sometimes you have to fight for it. Sometimes though – the best times – it sneaks up behind you, wraps an arm around your waist and pull you close.”
“The problem with broken hearts isn’t that they kill you. It’s that they don’t.”
Magical realism is one of my favorite genres right now and this book hit the spot. After Evie‘s parents split up she begins to question if love is worth the heartache that it could bring.
A 4.75/5

Instructions for Dancing is a beautiful, compelling story about a teenager learning about love and pain and when the rewards outweigh the risks. Evie is disillusioned about love in the wake of her parent's divorce and her newfound ability to see visions of other's relationships. Everything has to end sometime whether by choice or by circumstances beyond our control, so why bother with romance at all?
I appreciated the romantic relationships in the book and their varying dynamics, but friendships and family relationships are also well-represented.
I couldn't put this book down (literally read it in one sitting) and highly recommend it to others.

4.3/5 stars.
I loved the whole idea and I thought this book was so sweet. I loved the self awareness, the mystical “visions” element and the classic random witch/curse. I loved the characters and the way themes carried through all of them in slightly different ways.
I wanted slightly more tension in the beginning few chapters, as well as a bit more emphasis on the dance competition approaching date. That was my only complaint (other than the fact that the word choice was quite simple, despite the fact that Evie’s supposedly a “word nerd”).
Very cute and also heartfelt and also bittersweet book about love; I would say it’s one of my top 5 contemporary romances.
