Evie Thomas after a particularly difficult divorce of her parents is very cynical towards love.

This young adult romance is alternately fluffy, sharp-edged, and heartbreaking.

Lovely YA romance story, with a pinch of magical realism. Loved the diverse group of characters in a feel-good story, and an ending that isn’t saccharine or even completely happy. Excellent ballroom dancing plot, another nice representation of BIPOC characters in the arts, along with an aspiring rock musician.

Great book, didn't expect the ending, subverts the usual romance tropes

I was kind of hoping this was Nicola Yoon's foray into slightly less devastating novels, and for a while it felt that way - light, fluffy, but still written with skill. Then it's as of she abruptly decided halfway through that she had changed her mind on what the book was supposed to be. We glossed over what was most important in the first half and thoroughly rushed the ending. This feels like an aborted attempt, and it gets 3 stars from me purely because of the excellent writing which I devoured as always. The rest was a mess.

Another win from Nicola Yoon. I adored the Sun is also a Star so I had high hopes and I wasn’t let down. The reference to the movie Big was a wonderful surprise. The ending felt a smidge rushed but the story and character development was good and the overarching story made this a top read for me. Plus…seriously how gorgeous is this cover???? I borrow most of my books from the library including this one, but given how good of a read this was and how pretty the cover is, I think I’ll make the purchase!

*3.25 ish stars

The magic element (seeing the relationships past, present, & future) was a good addition & I liked how it played out. I also liked seeing the family & friend relationships. Also loved the short chapters!

I wish it was a slower pace…the relationship between Eevie & X felt insta-lovey & it would have been nice to see more meaningful interactions between them.
