⭐⭐⭐1/2

This is my 2nd book I've read by Nicola Yoon. I remember reading everything everything for the 1st time and thought this is such a wonderful story I cant wait to read the stories she creates.

This is a magical heartbreaking finding who you are and what you can trust type story.

This is a beautifully written story this story shows Evie and her family and friends. She one day starts seeing visions of relationships from start to end when she sees people kissing. She doesn't understand why she sees it. With being able to see peoples relationships she starts questioning everything. During this it leads her to a dance studio where she learns the art of dance. Where she lets herself start opening up to new experiences and to new and old people in her life.

Evie meets X and he's a yes man and she starts to open up about her pain and angry and he does to her and a great friendship starts
I dont want to give anything away on this story but there was so many strong moments in this story. Of just understanding life and you need to stop running from what hurts you and your past and the fear of tomorrow and just live. No matter how hard it is no matter if you know the outcome. You need to live

This has probably been one of my favorite stories of the year. I'm so happy I read this it made me laugh and cry and just really made me think. I will come back to this story and once it out in the world add more details to the review. 5 stars!! Go read this trust me its a must read Beautiful and Nicola Yoon stories just keep getting better as she writes. ❤❤

Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House Childrens Delacorte Press For Sharing this reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

This rating is more 4.5. Loved the plot and message of this book. Had one issue with it though. I will write a review later.

Definitely not my favorite Nicola Yoon book, but it was still enjoyable.

I hate this book in the best way possible

This is depressing if I wanted a realistically depressing bleak view I’d just close the book and looked outside.

Evie is better and more mature than me cause if one of my parents cheated they would not hear from me again. To me it just means your relationship with your kids and partner weren’t important enough for you not to jeopardize.

But I still liked this more than her other books I’ve read. It gave more new adult and less YA.

I should have known this was going to be good since Bahnie Turpin is reading the audiobook.

4.5⭐

Thank you so much to Delacorte Press and Netgalley for providing and e-arc copy! All thoughts and opinions are still my own.

My poor heart will never recover from this book... I had no idea what to expect going into this book (this is my first Nicola Yoon book!) but I definitely got more than I bargained for.

I fell in love with the premise from the moment I read it on Goodreads. I love when books explore love in unique ways and this definitely did just that.

Let's start with the characters. I loved how each and every character was flawed yet relatable and lovable. Don't be fooled by stunning, bright cover - there are a lot of a difficult things explored in here (death, cheating, etc). Nicola Yoon does such an amazing job of exploring the person behind the flaw.

The formatting was so fantastic and kept the book moving through otherwise slow parts. I loved how we got tiny glimpses of their training to mark the passage of time without having to linger there and slow down the story. It was kind of brilliant.

Also this delved into the complexity of teenage friendship. Without going into spoilers, I think a lot of people (adults and teens alike) will viscerally relate to what this group goes through.

But the real shining star of this book was, of course, the romance. Be still my heart, I adored these two. Again, no spoilers, but the way Nicola Yoon explored love and it's worth tore me apart. And I don't think I'll ever recover. I definitely cried my way through the end (and the acknowledgements).

This might have been my first Nicola Yoon book, but it definitely won't be my last!

there were definitely tears

I’m a bit late, but happy release day for Instructions for Dancing!!

Nicola Yoon’s new book is about Evie, a girl who no longer believes in the power of love after witnessing her parents’ marriage crumble. However, when she winds up joining a dance studio and agrees to help the owners win the annual Danceball championship, she meets X. Super charming, witty, and cuteeee, X and Evie begin to form a deep connection the more they spend learning the steps to bachata and tango. Oh, and she also has to juggle with the fact that she’s been given the ability to see the relationship timeline of couples who kiss after a run-in with a mysterious grandma.

description

Yall, I really played myself when I read this book. I thought I was going to be reading about a girl who doesn’t believe in love and ends up learning to love again after meeting a cute boy. BUT NOPE. What I got was an incredibly sweet and moving story about what it means to be brave enough to love when the world is incredibly unpredictable. By the end of this book, I was tearing up sooo much.

I haven’t read any of Nicola Yoon’s books before but I can already tell that I’m a huge fan of her. Her writing was so fun and poignant. I think she captures the characters and their complicated emotions so well. I felt for Evie so many times when she was cynical or fearful about relationships because it's honestly such a relatable and palpable feeling. I also loved the little details she included of Los Angeles. It was so fun to read about streets that I've been on or places I've also visited represented within the book hehe.

The only thing I didn’t really like was the ending. It felt a bit rushed for me and I wished the author spent a little more time developing the story before wrapping it in this neat little bow. However, I still really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it for anyone who’s interested in YA contemporary romances!
