Not really going to write a long review of this once since most people know what its about. While I don't think it is as good as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it sets a solid base for the serious to come.

A much needed adventure in a time where opportunities for adventure are scarce outside of literary pursuits. There’s hardly a more complete fantasy world to explore than Middle-Earth, replete with goblin kings, magic rings, dwarves, elves, wizards, and massive spiders. Bilbo’s journey is as much internal as it is external, as all great journeys are. I’d love to stop by the Hill and listen to the tales of his quest to the Lonely Mountain...perhaps at 4 while the kettle is whistling for tea time.

2023: This was my 4th time reading this book, and it just keeps getting better. I have read Beowulf since the last time, so it was super fun seeing that influence on the story this time. Also, I highly recommend taking Miss Angelina Stanford's class on How to Read Literature at the House of Humane Letters... I already knew I loved this story, but she brings out a lot of good things about this story, which then helps me understand all other stories as well.
