I really enjoyed this read, although it feels like it was a set up for something to come. A magical HBCU based in my city…love it! We get to know the characters a bit and the types of beings each character is or is assumed to be. This books takes place during what seems to be the first week or so of school. Maggie is plucked from her seemingly normal life and thrown into the most prestigious magical HBCU in the country. Along the way, Maggie finds friends and a crew in Asha, Souxie, Quan, Hillary, and Isis who decide to eschew the typical clubs, sororities, and groups on campus and be who they are. The book ends with a whodunnit, and I’m excited to read book two.
The story meandered a bit, and this book needed editing badly. Still enjoyable nonetheless!

I’m going to need you all to SIT the fuck DOWN! This book had me gasping, screaming, yelling, gripping my seat, jaw on the ground, drooling, and holding my mf breath!! I swear this book had some fucking crack in it or smth bc the way I ate this shit up, listening to the audiobook on regular speed, in three days, while working a full time job is CRAZY. It is literally 13hrs long. That being said, my friend recommended this book (who by the way, used to not fuck with reading OR with fictional books) and deadass we accidentally ended up making this shit a competition to finish it bc it was so good.
The characters are all so well written, each having depth to them and having at least one thing that makes you curious about them and pulls you in. They are funny as hell and they are feisty as fuck. We also have the world building which is so damn cool wth?!?! There are soooo many different types of beings and yet everything blends in so smoothly. The book is action packed and suspenseful that had me laughing out loud, had me mad as hell, had me staying up till almost 1am bc I knew if I stopped I would either drive myself mad or have nightmares fr (it’s not even scary it would just drive me nuts).
I 110% recommend this book and you bet your ass I’m grabbing the next one ASAP!
